Hilo side.

Sugarcane stalks, rustle in sunshine
Salt air wafts, as the seagulls complain
Emerald jeweled isle, Hawaii, Hilo side
Kulolo for breakfast, easy to make

Go pick opi’i, maybe catch lobster
Trade for some rice and Tonkatsu sauce
Sunsets on Pacific are crimson to amber
Palm trees a palace, the sky for a home

I cannot go back now, though paradise lingers
In my heart, long beaches, of pristine white sand
Time there is so precious, old souls remembered
Mahalo kamaaina kane, mahalo wahine

The ending means "Thank you my Hawaiian brothers, and Hawaiian ladies"

I don't know how to put the commas in the right places like jx.

Opi'i is a flat shelled muscle. Just toss right on the fire.

Flat shelled muscle. You crack me up. Mussel.

The Kona side is more fun and not as wet, and the wahines are abundant in the hot sun.

Say hi to Hilo Hattie for me.

Your poetry is always a pleasure to read.

Yes, I like it very much. You paint a wonderful picture with your words. I've never been there but I can almost imagine how it would be from your descriptions. I especially like the Hawaiian phrase for the ending. Quite a talent you have here! Keep up the great work!

PS: Can you tell me what the Hawaiian words are in English? That will complete the picture in my mind.

Very nice, thank you.

Hilo is a wonderful town, pretty little black sand beaches with Mauna Kea in the background, wonderful plants growing out of cracks in the ground and the passionate heart of Hawai'i glowing red and beating and pumping out new life to the world, it is a wonderful, magical place. Aloha nui loa i na- akua a me ka aina a me na poe o Hawai'i!

I think it's beautiful, although I don't understand all the words.

"paradise lingers / In my heart".

It's very nice, thank you.
