Because love pierces your heart and is designed to open you up where you are closed off. This hurts, because it introduces fear into your life. You wouldn't be closed off if you hadn't been hurt to begin with. Love challenges your defenses in an effort to heal your broken places. And healing sucks out loud - but is worth it. It allows you to drop heavy burdens and find happiness where you thought it was hopeless.
