So the scientists say.But what is the clear evidence or is just a guess

Anything that cannot be proven is called a "GUESS".

Scientists have presumed that an asteroid did it - but that is still a "GUESS". Just because some scientists said it, a guess doesn't become a proven fact, does it?

Things that far back are usually guesses, supported by good evidence. Actually a number of things led to the demise of the dinosaurs. The Deccan Traps eruptions in India were on-going at the time playing hell with the environment. The asteroid impact itself killed huge numbers over an extremely wide area, the material ejected fell back to earth causing forest fires nearly every place on earth. More material was ejected high into the atmosphere blocking out the sun for months. The darkness and cold killed the vegetation. Plant eaters starved. Carnosaurs died when the last of the herbivores died. Only small burrowers and the very lucky survived. Much of this is conjecture but it fits the facts of what happened. The Deccan Traps eruptions themselves might have done the job, given enough time. A similar basalt flow eruption in Siberia was probably responsible for the far greater extinction that ended the Permian period.

Well, there is this large crater at gulf of mexico (undersea) signifying , Yes there was this huge asteroid strike from other space ( unless nuclear bomb was around millions years ago) and dust got into the atmosphere and created the ice age. Some scientist are still debating among them on whether did the asteroid strike ended the dinosaur era on the earth. but having the dinosaur being cold blooded , they could not self generate heat and most probably died off when they couldn't adapt to the rapidly changing enviroment. that's when the mammals started to reign rule over the land. But some fossil like creatures still live in the deep sea as they are most probably unaffected by the ice age.

GLOBAL WARMING!!!! It was already much warmer than todays temperatures during the dino era!

Scientists believe that a LARGE asteroid impacted the Earth and destroyed over 90% of the all plant and animal life on Earth............ see mother nature can be really cruel.

However there has been some recent articles indicating that Super volcanoes might have played a part in the extinction event---------- and mammals like us might not have evolved if the extinction event had not happened.

I think there will be some evidence of an asteroid hitting earth around that time.I think one did hit,it didnt kill all dinosaurs but would have wiped out a lot.Others would have died as plant life and other food sources weren't available. There must have been some dinosaurs left, even little ones as they wouldnt have evolved into some of the creatures of today that they did.

The main theory is that an asteroid hit Earth, creating a huge cloud of smoke and dust that blocked out the sun, thus creating an ice age, and therefore killing the dinosaurs.

It had always been believed that asteroids caused the dinosaurs to go extinct, however new evidence suggest more than that. It proposes that not only the dinosaurs were attacked from above them, but also from below, either by earthquakes or volcanic eruption.

Yes. Asteroids HATE dinosaurs. And, while they're very good at covering their tracks, they left evidence of a huge impact crater just north of the Yucatan peninsula in the gulf of Mexico.

The discovery of the Yucatan impact crater and the subsequent discovery of a worldwide layer of iridium,an element rare on Earth, common in meteors.Below this layer, anywhere on Earth are dinosaur fossils, above this layer, anywhere on Earth,NO dinosaur fossils. This would indicate that whatever deposited the iridium, killed off the dinosaurs.Iridium is found in meteors. It is about as "proven" as it can get.Theories are never actually "proven"They are disproven.Nothing has disproved the theory to date

There is a very thin layer of material in sedimentary rocks all over the world that dates to the time that the dinosaurs vanished. And that layer has been found to contain meteoric dust. This indicates that at that time there must have been a large meteor strike.
