Why do you have to love yourself first before loving others?

people say you have to love yourself before others. why is that?

To experience love firsthand for yourself, will give you the power and wisdom, to be able to share it with others.

Because in order for us to appreciate others we must appreciate ourselves first.

We cannot love someone else, if we ourselves do not know the meaning of love because we have not experienced it to it's fullest extent yet.

Think of it this way - How can you tell someone that that flavor of ice cream is good, if you yourself have never tried it. You cannot show deep and affectionate love to others if you do not show it to yourself first.

I really hope I'm making sense, because I thought about the answer to this question for quite a while.

Because, if we don't love ourselves, then we won't love anything will we? We need to accept ourselves by loving and then others because of security? I don't know... maybe so you don't feel alone. THis is really hard question a good one but hard. I've been thinking about this the whole time i'm doing my homework... it's in my head but jumpled up. ugh... i'll get back to you on this.

Because people who do not love themselves will never believe that you love them and will be constantly demanding that you prove you love them. They paranoidly accuse you of just "using" them, and when you show the slightest interest in anything other than them, they accuse you of being unfaithful.
