Just recently bought a new suv and made the switch to automatic after 12 years of manuals. I love my new TrailBlazer, but miss the stick a lot. Maybe I'll just have to buy that '68 Camaro with manual tranny I've always wanted.

I've been a driver for only 1 1/2 years and I drive an automatic 98 Dodge Neon. I am going to keep driving automatic until I am an experienced driver (another 3 years).
I have driven a standard Audi before in a parking lot and it was interesting, definitely not close to being ready to try it on the road with other vehicles.

I drive an automatic. I would like to drive a standard at some point, but I have not yet learned how.

I have both. I love to drive the standard when I'm in a feisty, zippy mood. When I just want to kick back and relax, I will take the automatic. I prefer the standard for long trips, as it's nice being able to use the gear of your choice for hills, etc..
I think everyone should learn to drive a standard, as a situation could arise when they would need to know how. For example, you're out with a friend who has one, and for some reason they can't drive (injury of something occurs). It's just a good thing to learn.
All of my kids were taught to drive initially in my standard.

I use to drive a standard, and in fact learned to drive using a standard pickup, but I live in greater metro Houston, and there is too much stop and go driving which is hard on a clutch. Before moving here all I ever drove were standards. If I ever leave here for the slower pace of life again, I would consider driving one again. I think everyone should know how to drive one though.

I drive an automatic. No, I would never drive a standard unless I absolutely had to.

I have never liked automatics, for many reasons. Standards are better if you live or travel the mountains and hillsides. Plus, if used correctly, you save on brakes. For example, I have a 2002 and the brakes and such have not been changed yet. I figure by spring, I'll need rotors and pads.
Not bad for more than 5 years

We purposely got my latest car as an automatic because I like those the best. My husband's is an automatic, too, but our two fun cars, the Mustangs, are stick shift and they are a blast to drive-once in awhile.
