320 GB or 500 GB?

casual gaming, a few thousand songs, some basic pictures, and school work

is there ANY need to spend $80 for the 500 GB?

(I am trying to keep the price low)

With hard drives I buy the best value per GB.

A few thousand songs? Let's say 10,000. Multiplied by 6MB (a decent length song at 192kbps bit rate) that means your song library is 60,000MB or about 60 gigs.

320 would be plenty for now. As other posts have said you can always add an additional drive later or an external drive.

In my opinion I would have two HDDs. I have 2 160 GB. One for general programs and games and the other for Music and Videos. But, it may be more expensive this way. Most the people I know have a 250 GB for Music and Video. I have an old 6-8 GB HDD, that I getting ready to use for my Master Drive and load only the OS and a few other important files. Then my 160's be for the fun stuff. If, I have a software problem, it be easy to just re-install the OS and not have to back up everything.
But, this all a matter of preference and what a person want and stay within the budget they want.

If your motherboard can support it (which most do) you can always add a slave drive latter for more data storage if you ever run out of room with the 320 GB HDD. So if cost is a large factor for you I would go with the 320.

Not if you don't need it. HDD prices are coming down all the time. You can always add it later if you need more capacity. For most folk 320Gb will be more than enough.

Not really but they are so inexpensive at this time I would get the 500 if you can wing it.

id say for for the 500GB it will be worth it down the road. you will be surprised how fast you will use up space. its better to have a little more than be stuck. plus games and such files are getting bigger all the time.
