im 36 weeks pregnant and 2 days and i had 2 appts in the past two days and the first one was to check if i was leaking fluid. they took a strip and wiped me to see if it changed color and it did but they sent me home and never told me what it was. the second one i got the strep b test done and then i had to sign a paper that says its okay for her to deliver my baby. when they checked if i was dialated i was less than one cm but they were shocked to feel how low the babys head was. my due date is not until christmas day. since last night ive been havin the urge to go do my duty in the bathroom but i dont have to go and this morning i got a sharp pain down there like if i was holding it so i tried to go and nothing. then like an hour later i did and not much came out (sorry if too much) but it was sort of diareah like. is this all normal?

Call your doctor and tell them you want to come in now. There are no dumb questions when it comes to the health of your children. Go in and talk to them. Ask them what this all means for YOU. Will you possibly deliver in the next week? What would that mean for the baby? It sounds to me like you may be getting closer than you think. I am sure you are ready for this baby to get here, but stressing over it will only make it seem longer. Good luck and I hope everything goes great for you.

If the test was to see if you were leaking liquor they most likely would not have sent you home without instructions, the strep B swab should tell whether you are positive or negative and if positive you will need antibiotics when your water breaks and are in labour. If negative and your water breaks you should be given antibiotics after 24hours to prevent infection. The baby's head may be low but don't worry it won't fall out if you are less than 1cm dilated. Going to the bathroom as you described is normal, if baby's head is as low as you say everything (and I mean everything) has to get out of the way to make room!!! You might have your baby before Christmas! Good luck have a lovely baby!!!

Yes, all normal. You poor thing though! You're in the home stretch!

Normally, a hospital, or provider will not send you home if you're water is leaking without telling you so. Two things can happen. The small hole that's leaking can seal up, or if it doesn't, infection can set in (after about 12 hours I believe the risk goes up). I wouldn't worry about your water leaking though, they would have told you.

Also, Group B Strep (GBS) is quite common & very dangerous for your baby to contract. I had that with my first two and anticipate it with my 3rd in a couple months here. If you have GBS, your provider HAS to tell you, so I'm assuming you don't. If you do, however, you'll need antibiotics, through your IV, while you're in labor at the hospital.

IF your water did break, AND you have GBS, they wouldn't allow you to go home. If you had GBS, they'd tell you to come in as soon as your water did break, so I'm positive you're fine in both directions! Great news!

Even though you're dilated to 1 cm, baby can still be low. That just means baby has dropped & is in position, ready for labor to begin - that's great! Is this your first baby? If it is, they may be surprised that your baby is so ready to go once your body gets going! That's awesome!

When baby drops, there will be added pressure to your bowels and bladder, causing you the urge to defecate and urinate when you really need to. Diarrhea "can" be a sign of impending labor. I say this cautiously since it "May" be a possibility at this time for you.

If you have any questions though, you should feel free to call your provider and talk to the nurse or have the provider call you back - that's what they are there for, to provide you care.

Best wishes - I'm very excited for you! Let me know how you're doing!!!

Yes. Your body is preparing itself to have a baby. The strip they used is to test if you leak amniotic fluid. If it changed color, that doesn't mean you were leaking that fluid. I am sure if you were, they would have told you or sent you to the hospital. And strep b is very common during pregnancy, I had it. They just give you penicillin through your iv before you have the baby. And going to the bathroom is normal. When I was at the hospital, I told the nurses I needed to poo really bad. She checked me and I was already 10 cm dialated. So, your body is just getting ready. Relax, because when baby comes, it will be hard to. Congrats on your new one coming

The strip changes color no matter what, its what color it changes that determines if its amniotic fluid or normal discharge. If it was your water they would have given you instructions. But its also your JOB to ask. Dont just sit there like a bump, be proactive about your health care.

The pains and the urges are normal for a very low baby. He will pinch your colon and bladder, and the weight will cause the urge to poop without the act.

Loose stool is a sign of hormonal change in most cases, with some woman have some time before labor- not that its an indication of it, but its normal also for being 36 weeks.

You can go in and request to be put on the monitor and see if you're contracting or progressing. But as it is I would wait for regular painful contractions.

It does sound like your baby may not want to wait until christmas. The symptoms you describe are familiar and it sounds as if the doc got you to sign the papers now as they think you will be early. They were wrong to tell you the results and not be clear with the papers. They were also wrong to not explain themselves properly about the baby's head position (sounds like he's engaged). You are at risk of infection if you are leaking, so you need to monitor yourself closely. If you start to contract, jot down the times and take this with you when you go back in.
If you choose to phone them, do it now, and get the answers you didn't get at the appointments. Stay on the line until you do, don't let them call back you'll have to wait too long. The answers are on your notes, its not difficult to pull your file. Its more difficult to get your consultant or doctor or whoever is permitted to tell you what's on there, to speak with you but hang in there until they do, just refuse to hang up.
Personally, I think its likekly you'll be a mum pretty soon now. I wish you the best of luck!

I am no midwife or doctor, but I have got 2 children.

This sounds like it could be early signs of labour. Women often get loose bowels before going into labour. Don't take unqualified advice on here though, speak to your doctor...

Is the baby moving around ok? The pressure on your bladder is the baby's head making you want to pee.

GOOD LUCK this is a very exciting time for you!

Yes, it's normal.
You didnt break the water, if you had they wouldnt have sent you home. Your baby has just settled really low in the pelvis, which is fine. the head may be so low it is pressing on the rectal nerves giving you the urge to go #2 when there isnt actually anything there.

The symptoms you are describing means your body is getting ready for childbirth. As for the tests and not being told it is really up to you to ask the questions otherwise the person doing the test doesn't think to tell....they do these tests many times a day and it is a job to them but will answer your questions if you ask.

It sounds like your body is getting ready to have the baby. I would think that it will come before Christmas.
Try to rest and monitor any back pain in your lower back, tight feeling in your stomach. These could be signs of labor.
Go ahead and pack your suit case and wait.
