Hi
I just looked through this yahoo feature for the first time & somehow was drawn to your title...
I too beleive that there are 2 forces in the world...good & evil . A very good friend of mine told me something a little while ago that her mother passed on to her.... in the world evil always looks to destroy evil... It sounds a little hollywood movie, but i beleive it to be true.
I think the simplicity of good & bad is true. But I think the hardest part is to tell the good from the bad... Bad has a way of masking itself and packaging itself disgusied as "good"... sugar coated people is what i call them.
When someone manpulates, plans, and calculates-- that is evil. When someone seeks and gains their "reward" in whatever form based on someone elses pain -- that is pure evil...
Good people don't just say the right things- they do do them & live their life in a way that is good, generally without fanfare and adoration from the crowd. Dusting out the christmas donations and self-serving praise from others does not make evil and bad people good-- that is also the "sugar coating" that is meant to fool the world.
I think people are reflective... if you surround yourself with good people, not sugar coated false, pretentious good- but those who are pure of heart and spirit-- that reflects in you and will start to become the way that you live your life.
Society does have an emphasis on "good" -but unfortunately that too is often the sugar coated empty words not followed by actions and deeds.
I think people are inheritantly good. Life and experiences can alter that and change it over time. I think that the goodness in a person can always be brought to the surface and grow back to its former self...
So after all this--- I think that there are good and bad people but that we are all born good and true of heart and pure in our soul. True "good" is infectious. Unfortuneately so is true "evil".

So which kind of person are you?
By this reasoning, anyone who has ever lied is a bad person. A lie is intentional deception. Have you ever told someone something with the intention or the hope that they wouldn't know the whole picture? Have you ever NOT corrected someone, because you want them to keep believing what they believe? (For example, they thought someone was responsible for something bad you did, or thought you were responsible for something good you didn't do)
I don't believe morality is so black and white. Good people follow the law, right? Running a red light is breaking the law, and therefore good people don't run red lights. But what if a woman in labor is in the car? There are too many exceptions to the law and morality.
What if there is no choice between helping one person or helping another person, but inaction will hurt both of them? (Think Spiderman, when he had to choose between saving Mary Jane or saving a cable car full of people).
What if a good person HAS to cheat to help people? The whole I-stole-a-loaf-of-bread-to-feed-starving-children thing. Stealing is wrong, but so is letting children starve.
People can also be influenced to do bad things. In Germany circa 1940, the whole population thought it was okay to persecute Jewish, mentally retarded, and other "non-desirables." In essence, the whole population was "bad" people. If change was not possible, does that mean they, the entire country, were "evil" since birth? Are the surviving Germans still evil? If no one could change, there would be no remorse.
I believe the real evil that plagues humanity, is apathy. It is only when we stop caring that the world falls apart.

SIR ALBERT EINSTEIN, the great scientist has discovered the principle theory of relativity and that does cover humanity and their characterization! If you walk in a road, you have the left and right side in reference to you and the same would get reversed when you walk in reverse, yes the RIGHT will be left and the left will be RIGHT now!
The change is in reference to you only and the sides as right and left are hypothetical as we have made it for convenience to say the directions with reference to any single point, here it is you!
So, in the world, all are born with no crime record to be called as bad or good! The babies are bought up in such a social condition, deprived of food, education, healthcare etc - they are not less than two billion of them in all the countries including the western world and these all people have every chance to become bad by many times in life!
But the others who are with health and wealth and great maturity in culture and life are found to be more corrupt and adulterated and the four out of five of them, have evil mind to do anything bad at any time if the chance and circumstances comes handy!
In short, there is nobody is bad or good all the time through the life and everyone does become bad or good as and when their chances to get change does force them to change, which perhaps has hundreds of reasons which are beyond their control!
I have seen many bad people have good quality of helping the poor and needy and also has the principle of not to harm the women and children, even if they are bad to come by! I have also seen good people, I mean good that they are almost good to 95% but still have petty bad interest in committing something bad in some area than their own and hide it as much as they can!
Since you have to compare the people with one another to measure and merit them for your association and the friendship, you must have the vision that no one can be good all the time to you, since they too except the same from you, which is the only point to create a difference and to make the people bad and good!

I think that everyday, people make a choice, every second of the day and night, whether or not to make a decision for themselves.
I have a younger sister who grew up believing she was enttitled to anything she could get her hands on, money, jewelry, physical, tangible things because no one else would.
She would manipulate us, she became quite the con artist and could steal anything, under the best surveillance system. She wanted what she wanted, no matter what it took or who got in her way. She hasn't changed either, after 2 prison terms, 3 probation violations, losing her child.
She chooses to be this way.

You have a cold and cynical outlook on people right there.
Everyone has the capacity to be both good and bad, in equal or uneven amounts.
Morality and character is a constantly tilting scale between the positive and the negative.
People aren't born good or bad, infants are a clean slate.
How people are raised or educated or develop through intuition determintes how they were, are and could be.

I don't think that it is that simple. Every person is a mixture of good and bad, and it is really hard to categorize. Why can't the same person help others and also cheat? As to following society's rules... I think that makes you law-abiding, not necessarily good or bad.

I think that there's good & bad in everyone. Different circumstances dictate often times how one will react. The key to controlling the bad is tough. You have to be determinded & disiplined. Many outside factors determine how a person will react to any situation.

you are wrong. While many times people may go through life exactly as you have described.. it doesn't make your description correct. There is a lot of gray out there... and every now and then a tiger does change their stripes, so to speak.
The older you get... the more of the gray you pick up on.

There is no such thing as "good" or "bad". Those r things that r created in the human mind and do not exist outside of it AT ALL. You should learn not to clump ppl into those two categories. We all r a mixture of both "good" and "bad". NO ONE is perfect.
