HMMMMM?

Certainly differences in answers. Typical install is fixtures and cabinetry first; then ANY kind of FINISH flooring. What use might it be; IF one installed $1000 worth of Tile; for example; only to cover 30% with a tub or shower. Certainly the substrate under those should be appropriate/ even sealed.

Vinyl...sheet or tile isn't any different. It is advisable however to install around the toilet drain flange; then install the toilet.

Not as easy to answer as so many think. What type of tub / shower. Typically, if it is a set tub / shower (such as a one-piece fiberglass unit), you set the tub / shower pan first. If it is a free-standing unit (such as a clawfoot tub), you put the vinyl down first. Other than that, the vinyl should be put in before the vanity, toilet, and other bath items.

After reading DIY Doc's answer, he has a point. However, the reason I threw the vanity into the AFTER floor category is, especially with vinyl, you have to have a REALLY good vinyl guy. If he doesn't make a perfect cut around the vanity, it will look like ***. I know this from experience. The front will be covered by the toe kick, but the side won't. It drove me nuts, and I had a REALLY good vinyl guy. Set the tub / shower, put the vinyl in, the set everything else. Vinyl will not mess the walls like carpet will, so all painting can be done first. Make sure to run a small bead of caulk along the tub / shower so that any water that escapes doesn't cause the vinyl to curl and peel.

I would put the tub and shower in first. I also have remodeled 2 of my bathrooms and the floor went down last

Shower/tub 1st. Then the linoleum. Toilet and cabinet next. Floor board last.

Put the floor in first, then set the toilet, tub and/or shower . Makes for a much easier and neater job

Better to put in the fixtures first. You risk scratching and tearing the flooring when moving everything in and setting it up if you do the floor first.

Doing all that work and not laying ceramic tile? Kind of silly. Do the job right.
