Goalie: Jacques Plante
- the only category Roy beats Plante in...is victories. Plante had a better save percentage, better goals against average, better winning percentage, more shutouts, better shutouts/games ratio, more Stanley Cups, more Vezinas, more post-season all-star selections......in a shorter career

Left Defense: Douglas Harvey
- he was actually a right defenceman like Orr, but when the two best defenceman in the games history play the same position - one has to move. Since Bobby has weak knees, Harvey was more than willing to do that

Right Defense: Robert Orr
- the greatest player the game has ever seen - so I decided he needed to be on my team

Left Wing: Robert Hull
- small by today's NHL standards (5'10" or so) but armed with biceps of steel (shouldn't we be saying nylon if pound for pound nylon is stringer than steel?) and a 118mph slapshot. The last Left Winger to win the Art Ross trophy.


Centre: Wayne Gretzky
- from point 122 onwards, nobody has scored them faster (Selanne reached 121 faster than Gretzky)

Right Wing: Maurice Richard
- I grew up watching this guy, and I'm glad I did because nobody else has come close since.

Since I'm a fan of pre-NHL hockey.....Mike Bossy and Mario Lemieux will share rover duties!

Having watched the game for 40 years, I don't think the overall talent has increased at all. Using similar timing techniques, nobody today shoots the puck as hard as Bobby Hull, very few players today have the ability tp stickhandle in traffic like Beliveau, Mikita, Armstrong, Keon, etc. The difference in skating speeds around the rink for the fastest skaters are almost identical.

In 1962, almost half the players in the league could shoot the puck greater than 100 miles an hour, (roughly 60), last year in team competions, 47 players did it.

In the 50s and 60s teams knew how to pass, and goalie saves were more dramatic than they are today (example I watched two game last night and between Roloson, Garon, Budaj, Khabibulin, Holmqvist and Denis...they had to make across the crease saves 9x in total (in 2 games)...compared to 10-15x a game in the 50s and 60s) As a former scout, these are the things I look at and count.

Of course, I agree with Scotty Bowman that a lot of is inexperienced and bad coaching all the way down.

I also feel that goalies of today aren't facing offensive plans as complicated and elegant as the 50s and 60s.
