How much money have we spent over there anyways?

Since all the money was borrowed, we could not have spent it at all. The interest on the debt of about 1 trillion for the war will add 50 billion dollars to the budget every year. This would have gone a long way to paying for the extra money needed for the retirement of the baby boomers.

Your question implies that the Iraq war is a waste of time and money. If we didn't spend all those trillions on social programs, what could the government have spent that money on?

Oil. But since invading a country that has no link to the September 11 bombings to steal their oil is cheaper, I guess the US chose war.

Don't 'thumbs down' this because it seems anti-American. Invading other nations for their resources is an age-old habit of all great nations (eg. Great Britain, France, Germany, Japan). In fact, the only nation to have almost never of done this when they could was China, who only invaded Vietnam waaaay back in the day.

i don't now the exact number, but its literally billions. These money could go on other needs, but the Saddam would probably still be in power, Al Qaida would run around like they are off the leash, etc. If you except these political premises of course.
