I live in a condo, and my neighbours is a blond thin wife in her
forties who looks much younger, two children (girls, 12 and 17), and her husband, a small (maybe up to her shoulder), stout, round faced man who seemed to adore her.
Well, then they did something with her walls, installing a satellite dish or something, but all of a sudden when they talk loud you can hear everything. Yesterday he swore at her with the dirtiest words possible, and today there was struggle, a chair thrown, and her crying out in pain and crying afterwards.
What should you do in such a situation? I put the music on, they still fight/throw chairs/swear louder than this! And I ever dreamed of marrying, is this for having a husband to smile at you on public and beat you up with chairs when no one can see it?

She is still crying, and so pitifully.

Next time that happens call the police and let tell the police that you hear fighting next door.
Let the cops deal with it.

Yelling at eachother is one thing, but throwing things and cries of pain merit a visit from the police. I know that I couldn't just sit back and do nothing. I would feel absolutely horrible if anything were to happen to the wife/kids and I could have prevented it. Some people think you should mind your own business. But when abuse comes into play with children in the home and they're presenting their business to the whole neighborhood. It's your obligation to do something. Everyone deserves privacy, but this couple chooses to make their problems public. If a police officer, children services representive or any public servant lived where you do and heard what you did, they would have reported it as it is their job to protect the public. Next time call the police. You don't have to tell who you are other than a concerned citizen. Good Luck & God Bless!

This is a tricky situation...There are no clear lines on where to stop and when to involve yourself.
I'd say keep your ears open...Try to find out if other neighbors have heard anything or seen anything that could mean she is being beaten.... Maybe others know something but have not had the guts to do anything about it.
Be very sure before you call the police..!
IF you are right and this man is abusing his wife, the authorities should show up, IMO. Good luck and take care!

Abusers put on happy faces in public, which is a way of controlling the person being abused. Call the police, they won't tell him it was you. Call the cops every time you hear violence. While you can't stop this, do you want to be responsible for just sitting around listening to music while he kills her?

The only thing you can do is call police because they are disturbing you. If the woman chooses to tell her problem to police at that moment then that would be a good choice to put that man on notice. That is all you can do.

Next time you see them tell them you are able to clearly hear everything that goes on in their house because of the satellite dish. They will then realize you know what's going on. Could be the husband will just abuse her more quietly though. Not sure you should really get involved in their domestic life since you are only a neighbour and not a friend.

Call the police next time the fighting begins. Not all men are like that! I have a wonderful husband who would never treat me like that!

Next time it happens and you see her alone talk to her about it. She will be embarrassed and will deny it, but let her know you hear everything that happens and that there are places for her to go to that will help her and the kids. If it wasn't for a neighbor helping me like that-I don't want to think what could have happened to me. If you don't want to talk to her call the cops and they will at least go and stop the violence for the night (they will not arrest him unless she tells them to).

Call the police and have them intervene. File a complaint. He needs to learn that sort of behavior is not acceptable. I have called the cops on numerous situations.
