It is not the reving of the engine(i am not an idiot)- it is under that sound. The car is running fine... heat, accelaration, decelaration-etc...
There is just an underlying winding up and winding as i accelerate and drift..... does anyone have any ideas what this might be?

Check your power steering fluid level and pump - occasionally with some vehicles they just get noisy after time - but its often caused by low fluid levels in the pump. Does the car steer easily at idle? Does turning the steering wheel increase the noise? If so - check the fluid level in the pump and add PS fluid to the level indicated on the cap/dipstick.

DO NOT OVERFILL THE PS PUMP, though...

happened to me too.. took me forever to realize I was a quart and a half low on oil! Check your oil level, and add in good quality oil if you are low (Im willin to bet you are low!) and the winding sound will go away.

It may be that your fan belts need a little tightening. Another possibility is that your bearings need lubbing or changing.
