McCain...no. He blew it with campaign finance reform and the amnesty bill. Too many Republicans will never forgive him for that.
Guiliani's chances hinge on how the war on terrorism is going when people go to the polls. The more it is a factor, the more likely he will be a player. That's his biggest strength.

I agree with you that they are the top 2 Republican contenders. Rudy is a fresher face on the national stage, but I think McCain is a more accomplished legislator and has higher standards of integrity. The Senator is hurt bc he embraces neither the far left or far right and those respective-leaning media outlets don't give him coverage.
He says what he believes, even if it costs him votes. Instead of the American people admiring his leadership for that, they choose to follow silver tongues who tell them what they want to hear, even if it's inconsistent with previous statements and/or their voting records.
America will get what she deserves in a President. I hope the voters choose substance over style.

As Democratic voters become more and more disenchanted with the Democratic front runners (Obama and Clinton), I think you will see them moving toward these two guys. They are moderate enough for many us (Romney is pandering to the right far too much and the rest, well, forget 'em). We've had nearly 8 years of ideology-driven politics and I think either McCain or Rudy would be far more inclusive than the other GOP candidates (and more so than the current administration).

Too early to tell. Everything is still wide open...but McCain and Guiliani are leaving the door open for other candidates to slip through.

There's a lot of unsavory items that are getting ready to come out on Giuliani and his favor is going to drop even more. It's still early and I don't think there is an unsavory thing they can dig up on John McCain.

McCain is old. Rudy seems learned but little known outside US. Why not Mitt Romney ?Of course he is also not known.

I don't think so. After eight years of a conservative president, the public will is moved towards a more liberal approach. However, it will probably be Hillary, which means after two years we'll have a completely Republican Congress and another lame duck presidency.
