2002 Mercury Sable( no ford jokes please.. i have endured enough torture) 109,000 miles. New alternator, New battery. Car loses all power and electricty and dies. wont start for a few minutes...no response at all.. no clicking no clock.. no nothing..no power at all. then it will suddenly start. sometimes while driving it will trn off and back on. Theres something in the engine that i can hear going on and off that is related to this.. but i dont know what it is. It looks like its the a/c pulley..(the a/c compressor is 3 years old) but im not sure. suggestions?

I had this exact same problem with a '96 Sebring I used to own. It's an electrical problem (I'm sorry I don't remember the exact details as it was years ago).
But you should probably take it in and have a diagnostic test run on it. Mine was almost a $500 fix. I would recommend you do it quickly because even though it won't start for only a few minutes at first.. eventually it will get worse and you won't be able to start it for hours.
And I can remember having it shut down on me while driving on the highway and it wouldn't start up (no lights no nothing) and I was stranded!

P.S. Do NOT take it to Meineke if you have one in your town. They did not know what the hell they were talking about when I took it there to fix this problem.

Loose connections maybe in the dash at the switch, or a bad ignition switch.
The noise you hear may be bad ignition wires, or a coil shorting out to the block.
You could also have a loose connection where the power comes off the starter relay to run the ignition system. So check the leads from the battery that lead to the ignition switch and or fuse box.

The A/C clutch is supposed to cycle on and off.

If EVERYTHING quits working, check battery cables. Second, follow the positive cable to where it goes into the cab of the car (I assume the driver's side of the car) and check any connections that it has. It sounds like you have a bad connection on a primary feed or your primary ground, otherwise EVERYTHING wouldn't quit working.

It could be one of so many things. You're best bet is to take it to a mechanic and have him hook a scanner up to it. This will tell him the codes and what is wrong. Good Luck!
