How does no one mention the Rangers vs Islanders?
I tend to think the Rangers, Devils, Isles and Philly have some of the sweetest rivalries because they are all about a couple hours away (driving distance).
I'd go with the Rangers vs Islanders as being the most intense when attending a game (guys getting kicked out for drunken fights, "Potvin Sucks" and other good old hockey nonsense).
But for the record, the New Jersey Devils organization hates the Rangers organization to an extreme extent. The new Newark arena is designed to take a chunk of the Rangers Madison Square Garden corporate season subscribers. The time for their home games to start have been lowered to 7pm (opposed to the typical 7:30) like the Rangers. It's all apart of trying to get a piece of the corporate hockey fans in Manhattan (as Newark is about 15 minutes away - by train - from downtown Manhattan).
Also, Lou Lamoriello (Devils GM) does not ever contact Glen Sather (Rangers GM) as the two are serious off-ice rivals. And the New Jersey Devils have never made any sort of trade or deal with the New York Rangers since their existence (and the Devs have been around since 1982). The two organizations aren't even on speaking terms off the ice, unlike any other teams to my knowledge.
And also, Martin Brodeur has gone on record in his auto-biography of hating the New York Rangers and their organization. (Maybe because the first Ranger game after his divorce Ranger fans were cheering "How's Your Wife Marty, How's your wife! *clap* *clap*")

I'd have to say Calgary vs. Edmonton - the Battle of Alberta - seen some serious fire from those two squads when they meet up - doesn't matter where their respective seasons are as far as standings - it all goes out the window when the face off. Good stuff. Chicago and Detroit may become something - again - if the current trend keeps up. If the Blackhawks visibility stays up where it should be - they may just get under the Wings skin a bit - they certainly have proven a difficult puzzle for them this year. Could be great!

Ottawa and Toronto is a great rivalry. Been a rivalry for years and always will be even though Toronto has sucked for the last (quite a few ) years. Inter province or inter State always the best rivalries and the fans in Ottawa and Toronto are good (bags on the heads and all in TO).

I would definitely have to say NJ Devils vs Philly vs NY Rangers. The close proximity to each other, the fact that they are in the same division and how tenacious the fans are all go into the strength of this rivalry. Despite the fact that my favorite team is not in this division (Buffalo) this division, the Atlantic, is consistently one of the strongest divisions. Every year there is a change up in who is the best and the strongest. While other rivalries might be older, since the 90's I think this division, specifically the Devils, Flyers, Rangers three-way rivalry, is the current leader in greatest rivalries.

Bruins vs Canadiens no doubt. They have been going at it since the original 6 teams were in the league. Even though the Canadiens have beaten the Bruins almost 3-1 it's fun to watch the raw emotion when these 2 teams pit it out against each other.

Toronto and Montreal.
Detroit/Colorado has kind of fizzled in the past couple of years.......If Chicago keeps winning, as in giving Detroit a reason to play hard, watch for that rivalry to strengthen.

Coming from a Detroit fan, that one seems to be losing steam.
The best hockey rivalry I think is Toronto vs. Montreal.

Habs-Leafs of course. Calgary-Detroit also. In the AHL it would have to be Hamilton Bulldogs-Rochester Americans.
