They make a major contribution in keeping people happy so they not worry about Global Warming.
India is the world's largest producer of licit opium for the pharmaceutical trade, but an undetermined quantity of opium is diverted to illicit international drug markets; transit point for illicit narcotics produced in neighboring countries; illicit producer of methaqualone; vulnerable to narcotics money laundering through the hawala system; licit ketamine and precursor production.

Well, this sounds like an essay question, but I'll give it a shot anyways...

I should preface this by stating that I personally don't believe that humans contribute significantly to the general warming trend that has been going on for at least 200 years. However, if they did and India wanted to play along...

India should look for ways to provide energy for its booming economy that do not contribute significantly to the release of greenhouse gasses to the atmosphere. India already makes significant use of nuclear power, and has large reserves of uranium for fuel. Expanding production of nuclear power as a strategy to provide power for economic growth (as opposed to using other sources of energy) would curtail future production of greenhouse gasses.

In addition, India should participate in joint ventures with other nations to reduce or eliminate greenhouse gasses. This might involve the sale of electricity generated by nuclear power, or the use of electricity to generate non-fossil fuels for export. Other avenues for joint ventures could include participation in research on reducing atmospheric carbon dioxide, such as using iron to fertilize relatively lifeless oceanic areas, creating oceanic algae to sequester carbon.
