Depression is a very serious issue. Call in sick and write your boss a very serious email from home. Tell him/her about what you're going through. Not what is causing the depression and stress, but how it is effecting you. Tell your boss it is effecting every aspect of your life, including your work and you feel you are not at peek performance. Take today and Friday off. Have a nice, relaxing (if you can) extra long weekend. Come Monday, have a talk with your boss and tell him/her the same things in person that you said in your email. They can't fire you. It's a human rights case if they do and they know it. Discuss stress leave (which doesn't effect your holiday days off and cannot hinder your evaluations at work in any way). In any case, let your boss know that you will not be yourself for a little while but am working towards getting there.

I'm facing a serious state of depression that I can't get out of and is only getting worse as the days pass. I'm a bartender so I have no benefits and have no choice but to face my problems at work. Which is making them worse. I hope your situation is better than mine and you can take the care of yourself that is needed.

Hightail it out of there if you are AT work. If you're not at work, call in sick and stay in bed all day. Besides, if you live in the Northern part of the U.S., it's reallllly cold outside! So you really just want to be inside today with a warm blanket and a cup of hot cocoa. Sounds like a plan, yes? :)
