Be Kind, Be Honest. Ask her to sing into a tape recorder and listen to it. Usually when you hear your own voice without the resonance in your ears, you'll end up hearing how you really sound. She will probably make the best choice then. If she still thinks she sounds fabulous, then be straight and honest and tell her "Listen, you are my friend and I love you, but I have to tell you that your singing is not as great as you think. I personally believe that if you go out there in front of the whole school you will have one of those moment that you will remember and regret for a long time."
Good Luck

ummm this is a hard one, u could tell her the truth but then she might think u are being a ***** or jealous or something. Does she trust you? Maybe just tell her in the nicest possible way like I love you I don't want to hurt your feelings but as a friend I think you should know that your singing isn't that great I don't want you to sound stupid in front of the whole school. I am not saying this to hurt u I am telling u this because I care. Also ask your mum what u should say, mums are good with stuff like that and if she knows your friend she might have some insite of how your friend may react

You have to think what makes her special to you and then (gently) explain that although she is wonderful at whatever that thing is she is not so hot at singing. Perhaps, if you think she really wants to sing, you should agree to go with her to a singing class where the professionals will tell her more bluntly.
If none of this is possible then just be there for her after the event - she is going to need some support I expect.

Record her and a dying mule and let her listen to the comparison, hehe
I think you might just have to bite the bullet and tell her because you only have her feelings in mind but it depends on how bad you think she will take it. If she is going to do it regardless then just be there to support her if she is upset by the experience!

Tell her the truth... say something like "Sarah (or whatever her name is), you know I love you to death, right? Well, I'm only telling you this because I'm your friend... Your voice sounds like a cross between Hillary Clinton's laugh and Rosie O'Donnell, thrown into a blender with 3 pounds of broken glass... Please don't embarass yourself by singing in front of the whole school."
It's time for a little bit of Simon Cowell love for her.

Well, tel;l her the truth.. the truth will set you free... and besides, do you want her to be embarassed in front of your high school... you should just say it calmly and try to make yourself comfoertable. Expect her being angry but, if you really like her you will tell her the truth

the best thing you can do for her is to tell her..... NOOOO!!! she'll be mad at you, make no mistake. or, take her to one of those recording studios let her sing her favorite song, then play it back to her. she should hear how she sounds. if she still wants to sing for the school after that, well, you tried. just be there for her after she's done.

Girlfriend the truth hurts ,but seeing your friend embarras herself in front of the school will hurt more, especially when they start booing her off the stage .Rather tell her the truth than keeping it from her .
