The pill does not completely suppress ovulation in all women, especially some of the low-dose pills. While most women don't ovulate, some do occasionally.

In addition, many drugs interfere with the metabolism of the pill and reduce its effectiveness. It is important to tell your doctor and pharmacist ALL of your medications, and remind them that you are using the pill if you get ill and are prescribed medication. Some of the most commonly prescribed antibiotics will interfere.

Having a pregnancy and not realizing it and continuing to take the pill will most likely cause you to lose the baby. Some people don't realize that about the pill, and think they are using a form of birth control that prevents conception entirely, while in fact the pill works 2 ways, both pre-conception and post-conception.

If you're on antibiotics then it can counteract the pill & you might end up pregnant. Also, some "forget" to take the pill & end up pregnant. Thirdly, it's possible that the strength of the pill was not enough to keep the woman from ovulating. It takes a little bit for the pill to build up. The reason the pill works is that it keeps horomones high enough so that the body thinks it is pregnant. If you're pregnant, the body doesn't ovulate & you therefore, don't end up pregnant.

Taking it incorrectly, not waiting for 2 weeks after starting the pill and having sex unprotected. Antibotics, can negate the pill. So does St John's Wort. Also if its too low dose of a pill.

I fell pregnant with my first child whilst on the pill,a few weeks previous to finding out,I'd had a very bad kidney infection and had taken antibiotics, not knowing they can override the pill.

They aren't 100% successful, there are certain conditions e.g some anti-biotics which can override them.

If you don't want to get pregnant from having intercourse then for goodness sake use a condom not the pill!

check with your doc about any meds you already take there are plenty that interfere with the pill, antibiotics are the worst, stress can mess with them aswell, if you miss 1pill out of the whole packet then bingo, and not taking them at regular times, i used to take mine as soon as i got up then i never forgot
