I say no. The president has very little power when it comes to abortion. Abortion is allowed because of a supreme court decision about privacy. It says that state laws prohibiting abortion are unconstitutional. Thanks supreme court for letting states make up their own minds.

How do we end abortion? A constitutional amendment RIGHT BY GOD NOW STOP MAKING EXCUSES AND PUTTING IT OFF CONTACT CONGRESS RIGHT BY GOD NOW. Clear enough?

This is an area where our President has failed. Roe v. Wade is ripe for the picking right now. We, as Americans, need to get this overturned quickly. This is an immoral law that allows MURDER of children. President Bush should be the one leading the charge on it.

First of all you must remember that the Supreme Court justices are appointed by the President and approved by the Senate. The President is relevant on the issue of abortion because he can decide on the next judges to enter the Supreme Court. For example, Clinton appointed Ruth Ginsberg, a liberal like him, who approved abortion. Bush appointed Alito, strongly against abortion like him. Since most of the justices who are old and about to retire or die are liberals, if the next President was conservative, there might be a small chance that enough pro-life justices would enter the Supreme Court to reverse Roe v. Wade.

Making a law against something is not the best way to stop it. Cigarette smoking is seriously on the decline in the US without being made illegal. In fact the government's efforts to stop smoking have worked better than most other government efforts including the "war on drugs." It would seem that education and awareness have quit an impact on peoples decisions. So if someone is against abortion, couldn't they find a reasonable way to lead the public away from abortion and not try to make them illegal?

The President does have some relevance to the abortion issue - he nominates the Supreme Court Justices and they are the block to changing the law on this issue.

People see the President relevant as they are the person that nominates the Supreme Court Justices.

You cannot incorperate relegion into laws. However, a law can be passed saying life starts at conception. Period. If that is the case, Abortion is then murder. So the law dosent even need mention to abortion.

HOWEVER, this is a states rights issue, and is best left off the federal table. At state level, I think all states would ban it.

You are correct. The only influence the President really has is appointments to the Supreme Court. The law of the land is Roe V Wade, and until that is overturned by the court, it will remain that way.

The President puts forth a party line and controls a large amount of votes based on the normal day to day political situation.

Of course he's relevant. He may or may not be right; but he has a voice that is going to be heard and followed

Use your right as a citizen of the US and vote for the candidates that support your beliefs. I for one support Roe vs Wade. I do not feel this is a hugh issue compared to the Iraq war, the decline of our economy and $$, education, supporting our vets, energy costs and protecting our planet.

Should I call God and have him contact congress? I'm not really sure what you want me to do here but it seems like you are imposing your beliefs in God on the rest of society, which is the exact OPPOSITE of what this country is based on.
Long live Roe V. Wade!
