My vet runs about $150 per x-ray which is normal for my area. But as with any other treatments prices vary greatly. Some vets charge $185 to spay a Dobe sized girl and my vet charged $200 15 yrs ago to spay a MinPin. The best way to treat it if he is not in pain and can use it some is crate rest and leash walking for at least a week. But a vet visit can not hurt.

Quote Ginbark (a couple of answers up) "My vet runs about $150 per x-ray which is normal for my area. "

Do i just get ripped off or what!! Lol everyone on here is saying the prices they pay for their treatments, x-ray for my puppy costs $550. I live in sydney, australia btw might be something to do with that. From the way i understand it it's about 200 for the anasthetic and whatever the rest is for.
Um if your dog has been hurt coz your son was playing, i dont think it's in need of an x-ray. Take him to the vet and the vet will exam him and if they feel there's cause for concern they may forward you to an x-ray but if it's just a sprain there's probably no need.

It could cost any amount, i hope that you are insured as x rays usually run into a fortune for whatever animal big or small.
Just ring the vets they will be able to give you an amount.

It possible that it is a strain or sprain to the leg, but if it is then the vet can gove your a dog an anti-inflammatory injection that works within minutes.
This happened to my dog and i took him to the vets as his leg was hurting him after he ran around the garden like an idiot, he gave him the injection and within a matter of minutes he was back to normal.

A small jrt having an X-Ray should not cost more than a large jrt having a similar scan. Problem is getting the jrt to pay. Are all jrt owners too lazy to type out the words Jack Russell Terrier or is it the fashion. I am a kcs person myself although I did used to have a lhis once.

No point asking us - xray costs vary SO much from vet to vet! We don't even know what country or area you're from! You can ring ahead and ask the vet how much they charge for xrays. You'll also need to add on the cost of any sedation, and then there'll be the cost of any further treatment as a result of the xray.... just ring the vets!!

yes the vets is the best place to go, i have chihuahuas and as you no they are smaller than your dog, but for them it was £60, different vets charge different prices! You can ring to enquire, at least you will no, if he is walking on it and not in pain, i doubt if you will have an x ray, may be anti inflammatory like metacam, which of course is a pain killer too.
Good luck.

Your dog may not need x-rays just a muscle relaxant. I've had a couple a sprains here with my Terriers and it's been a muscle relaxant with a recommendation that I keep them quiet (right!!) for a week - no walks or running around.

Xrays run about fifty-seventy dollars for the first film. The more films done, the less the subsequent ones cost.

Just ring the vet and ask, they should give you an estimate. Prices of vet care vary from vet to vet and area to area so it might be an idea to ring round one or two of your local vets.

It took me 5 or 10 seconds to figure out what a "jrt" was(jack rabbit turd?) but I'm still working on kcs and Ihis. I had a sp once, he was cool but I always had to iron him. (Kansas City Sheppard?)
