Long story, bear with me. My grandma gave me her rings. I tried to tell my soon to be finance i wanted to use them when we became engaged, but he thought i didnt want him to spent a lot of money and that i really wanted new rings. I should have firm about it, but i let it go. Well, i thought i had a second chance when he asked me to go shopping with rings with him so he knew what i liked/disliked. but we never went, and before i knew it he had brand new rings and proposed. Well obviously im a pushover and never say "no", so i decided to keep them. I didnt want to hurt his feelings or his credit. But then we went to get them sized at the store, when we got them back they had *burned* some of the diamonds black and didnt even bother to clean it! Not only that but i swear the rings still were way too big, they felt the exact same size as before! When i promptly told them this they blew me off completly. Now i dont think he can return them, what should i do? I feel so bad :(

Take it back and tell them you payed to get it sized and your not leaving till its done!! And tell them you expect to have it cleaned as well.

As for the other rings hold on to them b/c you never know when the ones you are wearing might get lost or stolen, or a stone might come out.

You have a certain case against the jewellery store - no doubt about that - up to you if you want to get them sized and cleaned or your money back - if you decide to keep the rings why not have your Grandmother's rings blessed as well when you get married (if you are having a religious ceremony that is) and wear them on the other hand - that would take care of your 'something old - something new' ..... best of luck and congratulations to you both.

There is no reason teh diamonds should have been "burned" are you sure it isn't just some buffing compound on the stones? Have you tried to clean them? If you have then I'd say something fishy is going on, # 1 a real diamond will not discolor from heat, second they size rings on the bottom no where near the stones so I'd say they are trying to pull a fast one on you. You need to speak to the owner or the manager, I think they may have tried to do something with your stones, also have them put the rings on a sizing mandrel, that will show if they had been sized or not.

If the store messed up on the rings, it is their responsibility to fix them. You need to be firm with them. There is no point having discolored rings that are too big for you. Maybe you could take the gems out of your grandma's rings and put them in a new setting. That way you can have something old from your grandma and something new from your honey.

Let you're fiance know what's going on so he's not blind sided. But definately take the rings back and demand to see a store manager. Let him know that the rings weren't sized properly and that they were burned black when given back to you. Let him know that you want a full refund due to the trouble this is causing you and you don't wish to do business with him anymore. Should be pretty straightforward and you shouldn't get too much hassle. Good luck.

I would go back to the store, and speak to a manger. And then write the head of the company a not so nice email, call their customer service hotline, and so on until you get results. Also your fiance should do the same, sometimes a man can be more intimidating and get better results.

As for your grandmother's rings. Have you considered using them as the rings you get married with? Meaning, use the ring your fiance bought throughout the engagement period. And then when you get married, get married with your grandmothers rings. That way for the rest of your life you get to wear your grandmothers rings, and its not hurting your fiances feelings on the engagement ring. Plus it saves you money on a wedding band :)

But if you need to get your grandmothers ring resized... go to a different jeweler.

In addition to trying to work things out with the manager, you may want to file a police report over the 'damaged property' so it is on record.
Take Pictures!
And file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (filing the report might make the store more willing to work out the problem).

Contact the Better Business Bureau if the company is not helping you. As far as the Grandma ring, well you just need to talk to your soon to be husband about that, if you can't talk now, then it's problably not going to get any better later.

Go back to the jewelry store and insist on seeing the manager...tell them you want the rings sized properly and cleaned or your money back

yep, talk to a manager! They have to resize them and clean them. Tell them if not, you want your money back and you have back up rings you can use that -you- love if they dont do what you want! In the future, be firm with your fiance, tell him what you want!
