I'm going to defend the preachers on this one. I grew up as a preacher's kid. My dad made around $22,000 a year, plus we lived in the manse free of charge. We drove crappy cars that broke down at the most inopportune times. I will never forget mom picking me up from band practice and the cheerleaders having to push the car to get it started. I knew at that moment I would never be popular. I never had brand-name shoes or the latest style in clothes. Sometimes we lived in nice houses, but the church owned them, so when my dad left the church, my parents, at about age 50, had to deal with getting a mortgage and finding a house - at a time in their lives when their peers were paying off their houses and looking towards retirement.
Not all preachers are in it for the money. Some of them truly believe what they teach, and live for their faith. While I am not a traditional Christian, I am blessed to have seen that example.
Edit: As a professional tax advisor, I have to shut down the idea that pastors are 'tax exempt". Churches are tax exempt, but pastors pay the same income tax you and I do, on every dime they earn. Many times they are considered to be self-employed and have to pay all of their own Social Security and Medicare taxes as well.

OK, you have a point here, and a friend of mine recently stopped attending church for just that very reason.
There are some pastors who actually have a day job, at least in my small town. They don't have much more than I do. And then you have the mega-churches...
The short answer is greed.
For Annmarie below me...I live in a small town/rural area, and our community has two churches. Trina, the pastor at one of the churches, works part-time for a satellite TV company while her husband is employed by a local trailer factory.
Reverend Blackwell is a farmer, who spends his days in the fields just like many in my area.
I would say these count as day jobs.
Ours is a small community, and neither congregation would be large enough to support the pastors and their families, hence the need for other employment.

You don't give your money to him. You give it to the church which purchases the house for him to live in. Why do you expect a Preacher to live poorly? He may also have other income sources you are not aware of. The larger the church, the more they have to offer a Preacher. It is not an easy job.

It's true, the majority of "preachers" are living way better than their flock, that isn't usually true for priests. I've never met a pastor who has a day job. whatever happaned to the small parish which was next to the church for them to live in, this is also why they are supposed to be "tax exempt", why the heck should they be tax exempt when they're earning way more than the average worker.

I live in a nice house and drive a pretty good lookin car. My pastor does have a nice house and 2 cars. except the other is for his wife. And their not luxurious either. He got it through working for so many years. Not through his congregation. you know, its so amazing how people can follow the hype of what somebody else says. Dont stereotype all pastors. It only feeds your ignorance.

boy you are angry.
first it doesn't matter what your preacher drives.
second you aren't giving your money to him, you are giving it to God. God is who you care about what He thinks, not your preacher.
if you aren't a believer, then don't worry about giving. Giving is a part of worship. it's a very important concept, where you start demonstrating your trust in God to provide for you.
I understand how you feel, but it's not a very accurate picture. I've wondered this myself. But that's not the situation. You care about giving your money to God and then it doesn't matter what happens to it. God uses it as He sees fit and he blessed you how he sees fit.

What should he have? Most preachers are college educated and have doctorates. So after paying for all that education and sacrificing to get it they should be some poor financial losers? You are lame and envious and probably lazy.

My Priest doesn't . He works 2 jobs (priest and a florist) and him and his wife both drive 2000 KIA Sophias (not what i would say are nice cars) . Most of the Clergy I am come across are in the same situation . So please don't generalize . Most of the time it is not true

Correction... You give your money to God, not to the preacher.
Jealousy, envy, bitterness, backbiting, etc. is the work of the flesh.
Why shouldn't the faithful servants of God be blessed by God? Our God is "Jehovah Jireh," the Lord who provides for His people.
I am sure God will bless you, too, if you will only learn to obey Him, serve Him & trust Him to supply all your needs "according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus."
Jesus loves you just as much as He loves the preacher.
