Will someone please tell me that threatening to lash a teacher for allowing children to call a 'teddy bear' Mohammed is just a sick joke. How can any religion let alone state be expected to be taken seriously or with any tolerance when they have such medieval and sadistic laws.

Take your point Kimon but that was 600 years ago not yesterday.

Well Happily Happy what a pearl of wisdom. Anyone can do anything in their own country, wise words. Still i bet you would rather be this blasphemus country than live back in the dark ages of Sudan.

You have no right to judge other countries based on your blashemous culture. Sudan has a constitution and they judge by their constitution not your wishes.

Unfortunately it's no joke. A woman is threatened with up to 40 lashes or a period of imprisonment for the 'crime' of calling a teddy bear Mohammed.

The original joke appeared in 'Life of Brian' and was very funnny. The authorities in Sudan should be shown this clip to highlight just how pathetic and stupid they really are.

Unfortunately, politicians in any country do not have to be educated people.

The Sudan seems to be a classic case in point. They needed to deflect people away from the Dar-fur issue and some bright spark obviously thought this one was a winner!

Now they are caught. They cannot loose face by backing down and they know if they go through with it the entire Muslim world as well as the Europe and the Americas will be after their blood.

First of I think that this teacher is from another country......before she goes there she should have checked and see what rules she had to follow, instead of going to a country and thinking she can do whatever

Yes, it is ridiculous, but it is something serious to the Sudanese laws or culture

It's also amazing how one "white" teacher getting a few lashes makes it to the news fast, but so many Sudanese getting killed took forever to make it on news.........WHAT"S MORE SICK??????

what are you talking about?
and besides who are we, americans, to say that people who have had a culture for THOUSANDS of years are "in the dark ages" when our culture has only been around for a couple of hundred years so of course ours would be more modern because it is. and what is done in sudan is NONE of your business, if there is a law or custom in sudan then it should be followed by sudanis, and if you don't like it then don't go there, plain and simple. that is why america is turning into a dump now, because of people like you who are medlesome and who can't just worry about the terrible things that happen here in america, people you are too busy bothering others in other countries. while rapists and murderers are walking the streets of america everyday, why are you crying about that? see you are too busy worrying about sudan that you forgot about your own home. and once america is PERFECT, which it will never be, then you can go bother people w/ their "middle aged" culture.

The problem will escalate if the teacher is lashed and we can expect a back lash against Muslims in this and other Christian countries by extremists.

Do not point fingers buddy.
Need I remind you what Christians did and do in various forms of brutality.

It is not the religion to be blamed but the people interpreting it.
