To me love means giving to my partner, creating beauty in the lives of people I love, it is a powerful emotion and completely enveloping when with the right person.

When someone says they love me, to me, it means that they care deeply about me, that they respect me, that they wish to bring happiness to me, and that they are integral of my life.
When someone tells me that they love me, I only think of how I can love them in return.

Thank you for all of your wonderful answers! You are beautiful! love and light!

Above anything else, TRUST. So I can tell the girl about ANYTHING personal and she won't tell all her friends without first asking me. After that, it's faithfulness, respect, then being good friends and having some great mutually enjoyable sex.

As I'm a bit older than many of you guys (44) I really can say that trust is the thing... the gold standard to aim for in a relationship.

"I love you" = "I trust you with my life"

It's that simple :)

As Elmer Gantry used to say, "Love is the mornin and the evenin star," it is an outward motion, an expansiveness that is all embrassing. It is the radiance of the sun and it is the warm breath of your lover gently caressing your cheek during a quiet moment. Love is kindness, and generosity, peace of mind, gentleness and forgiveness. Love is a cool breeze on a hot Summer day and love is our appreciation for the things that seem small but are in reality enormous. Love is when your heart is bursting from too much joy and appreciation for you to contain. Love is inhaling and exhaling. Love is a secret with a sweet fragrance that titilates the heart and Soul. But then again, what can I possibly know of love. I am a dreamer who dwells in a world of imaginings. My words are the words of one who is ignorant of all things except the eternal longings of an overreaching heart damaged from dashed hopes and unfulfilled dreams.

Often it depends on the context and who is saying it. Usually it seems to be meant as a sincere expression of affection but sometimes...

~It expresses deep passion and commitment
~It means somebody wants something (and not just adults wanting sex, my kids use this ploy for candy)
~people say it when they are frustrated and don't know what else to say.

to me the word love is a spiritual energy that can put things right.
it is powerful enough to to give ones life for someone.
powerful enough to shield someone from harm.
and those who know how to love this way have very high EQ (emotional qoutient).
also they don't fear easily,
they're confident,
they're not selfish,
they are sweet.

and if that someone says "i love you" to u.
how fortunate u r.

i'm fortunate for having someone love me that way (she's not perfect, she's not like superman) and i'll give my life for her.

depends on the kind of love... love for friends, parents, enemy, special person...

love for me is something where you put all your emotions, trust and respect for the person...

when you say "i love you" it means you accept the wholeness of the person no matter what....even if it means sacrificing...
a word speak by heart....more than anything...
