I would like to name my daughter, Katherine after my uni counsellor who helped me so much to bear my fears at Uni.

If i had a son, I'll call him 'Kevin' after my accounting teacher i got along pretty well at uni.

maybe not. cos i think a newborn baby is a brand new creation. it shouldn't be a reminder of anything. if a name is given a certain charactor, the baby with the name will be restricted in certain ways, and its potential may not be developed fully in e future due to this restrictions.

Not really name my baby after whoever people gave a great helped or influenced in my life.
Maybe by co-incidence you can name the baby the same but not because of that reason.

But i tell you what, i like the name Katherine. Very sweet pretty name.
Kevin is nice too. There is something about the name Kevin which is very warm and loving.

That sounds great, i did the same thing with my daughter. My daughters name is Jasmine Leigh and the reason i choose the name Jasmine is because i've got a friend with the same name and she was there to always cheer me up whenever i seen her in school, shes one of my best friends now. If i have a little boy in the future i'm gonna be naming him after my dad and mom, which would be Thomas Anthony or Michael Edward. Thomas would be from my father and Anthony is a male version of my moms middle name Antoinette and Edward is my dads middle name. Good Luck!

I think that is a nice thing to do - honours the people and names your child after someone with good qualities you admire and would want for your child. Katherine/Kate and Kevin are good names - if they had pretty bad or old or obscure first names, that might be better for a middle name though. Congratulations and good luck.

if they had a big enough influence, yes. I like the name Katherine and Kevin, both pretty names.

I heard a name on a documentary type show and
I knew that was the name I'd been looking for.
I wouldn't name a baby after someone who was
just doing their job.
A name should have a special meaning.

I'm naming my child after one of my mentors or a very influential person in my life. Like you, it doesn't matter to me whether or not they're related to me or my daughter. So far I've got the names Evelyn, Beatriz, Violet, Rose, Catherine and Anna to choose from... Though I really wish I could honour all of these amazing women.
