great news this morning the police have made arrests for gun offences, it is under stood one hundred people have been caught.great news for the public,,Now Watch how once again the law will let these officers down, and the publc by passing sentences (if any) that do not, in anyway fit the crime does anyone, feel the same as I do that the laws in this counrty the Uk fall far short of what should be applied in many many cases ?.

This relates to the Uk,not to the USA,but thanks to the retired detective for comments they are in fact similar to the UK,our laws are very out dated to cope with the upsurge of crime and its wide variations.

As a retired Police Officer I agree. I used to get really frustrated that after a lot of good Detective work, I'd arrest the offender, put them before the court only for them to be severely told off, made to promise never to do it again and sent home with a smile on their face to boast to their criminal cronies that they'd had one over the system again. As for that idiots reply that the Police in seizing these weapons have prevented people from protecting themselves against terrorism; get real fella. Do you really believe the reason these criminals (for that is what they are) had the weapons was for protection against terrorists?

Judges are out out touch with sentencing criminals, they have
the same attitude as with magistrates, also believing
every word barristers say to them. Our laws and sentencing
must be tougher.Bring back some kind of corporal punishment would suffice, like the Cat `O` Nine Tails, something to really put the fear of god into
wrong doers.

I'm not British. But I'm going to make a bet with you.

Of the 100 people caught with a gun, damned few will actually be criminals. Most of them will be honest citizens who simply did not want to give up their gun. They never had nor never will commit a crime. The "law" turned them into criminals by stripping them of a right they were born with.

Another bet for you. Of the weapons confiscated, most will be inoperative, or old obsolete World War One and Two relics. I suspect that there might be and old double barrel shotgun or two in there as well.

The only persons who have modern firearms over there anymore are your terrorists and thugs.

Funny, I thought it was just here in the USA that I get let down by light sentences for people I arrest.

The Al Quaida cells in England must be thrilled.

The police are making as sure as they possibly can that no citizen will be able to resist terrorist attacks.
