It's a bit hard to understand what you mean, because your description was a bit unclear. However, I'm guessing that you have some kind of paralysis in your wrist..or maybe fingers, causing some difficulty in making smaller, more precis movements in your hand.

If this is what you mean, then the surgery the dr. is talking about is probably to relieve some pinched or "temporarily damaged" nerve. I think you should try injections and physical therapy for a few months, first. Then, if none of that helps, I'd go ahead with the surgery.

But, be patient, because it takes a very long time for a damaged nerve to heal. I accidently hurt a nerve in my hand, which resulted in a degree of paralysis that really made it hard - or impossible - to carry out certain, simple everyday movements of three of the fingers of that hand. However, I bought a wrist support from the drugstore and tried to "baby" the affected hand and fingers as much as possible. Finally, after about 5 months, my hand was back to normal!

Hope you're better soon!

I've had hand surgery before and, waiting for more but, putting it off. I have a ten inch plate in my left hand and cannot bend it in any way, just the fingers.
Think of this when you move your hand, only your fingers will bend. It hampers your every move. I can't even pick up a glass of water the correct way.

Sometimes the neurosurgeon can manipulate the nerves over time so they "wake-up" and will be useful again. I would go this route first. Surgery to fuse bones or affix bones would be the last choice and only a last choice.
