I'm a foreigner living in South Korea so I don't claim to know a lot, but I think I can answer three of your five questions well.

1) Not so much a discovery, but the 1988 Olympics opened up Korea to tourism and was greatly beneficial to the people and the economy.

2) I would recommend Haeundae in Busan. This is the most popular beach in Korea for foreigners to visit.

3) I would send video of the countries fans during a World Cup soccer match. You would see red T-shirts all over the place and the support and pride of the country is unbelievable. This one you really need to be here to experience, as I can't really explain this well.

4) I'm not sure about the animal.

5) I'm not sure about the land usage, but with the population density most of the building is up and not out.
