it varies from person to person. it also depends on the types of chemo that a person takes. for me it was right after my second treatment. it comes out in chunks, all of it doesn't fall out at the same time. i remember showering and washing my hair, and it coming out in chunks. you know that you are going to lose it but not until it actually happens does it effect you mentally. i remember bursting out into tears. then i had to get someone to just shave it off, so i would be done with it. once you are to that point it gets easier.

Hair loss can as soon as a couple of days after a round of chemo is begun to within a few weeks. Sometimes there isn't any loss for the period of the primary circular and hair loss in the course of a 2nd round. It can be not the identical for every person. There is a new procedure to avoid or at least curb hair loss, called the cold Cap system. It can be been tested more potent with some chemo medications than others. It works higher with Docetaxel (taxotere), Paclitaxel (Taxol), Epirubicin and Cyclophosphamide. Inform your mother so she will ask if that is available at her chemo unit. If it's not, there may be one more manner she can cool her head. Cooling the scalp to sixty eight measure F constricts blood drift (and for this reason chemo delivery) to the hair follicles. Cooling must be started 15 min. Before chemo and for 1-2 hours after it can be completed.

It depends on the patient and the chemo. they told me my sons hair would fall out within the first month of leukemia treatment as most patients do. However my son and several others did not loose it until the second or third month, and then it was a slow process it did not all fall out at once. Some can even keep it for up to six months. It is different for every patient.

Mine started at 3 weeks the first time and took about 2 weeks to completly come out.
The second time I didnt loose my hair at all with the first two treatments. Then on the third treatment I started loosing at about week 4 and it only took a few days to come out.
It varies widely by exactly what chemo and the patient.

If chemo drugs are going to cause hair loss (not all do, and some just cause hair thinning), you will usually start to notice the loss within about three to four weeks. Once it has started it is likely to fall out quite quickly, although with some people there is a more gradual loss.
I started to notice hair loss an day 19, and it was almost all gone within a week.

It was almost 3 weeks after the first chemo treatment that my hair started to fall out. I could have pulled it out, it was all so free in coming out at the time and very upsetting even when you are told it will happen.

It dependsn on the chemo drug taken, not all of them make you lose your hair. I started losing mine at about day 17-19 as well. It's not taking very long either to come out!

My nephew Andrew was diagnosed with Brain Stem Glioma Oct 26 2007. He had Chemo and Radiation. They shaved his head because he started to lose his hair over the past few weeks.
Go to www.caringbridge.org/visit/aws and see his story.
Also if possible Pray for him
