Taxes pay our servicemen and woman. Teachers, judges, police, fire fighters. It is also where the funds to build and repair schools and roads. Everyone pays them because these services are for everyone and that is basically as fair as it can get. There are all sorts of deductions from your taxes to make it more fair (although it doesn't always end up that way). Taxes are what lets our country be as healthy as it is.

From memory there have been a few lawsuits from people challenging the legality of taxes, and without exception, everyone of them has been shot down in the courts.
Why we pay taxes depends on your point of view. Some people believe that tax dollars should not be used for anything besides the military and law enforcement. While others (socialists) believe that the government should use taxes to control just about everything in the economy.
IMO the truth lies somewhere in between.

Maybe you'll get this. Title 26 of the United States Code based upon the 16th Amendment of the US Constitution is the authority. People who do not pay their taxes have all faced penalties, fines, and some have gone to jail. No tax protester has won their day in court. So pay your fair share and when you hear some of this garbage from any body it is complete nonsense and without legal merit.

You've heard from a few idiots. Please pay them no mind.
We pay taxes to fund the operation of the government AND because it's the law. Pure and simple.
There are hundreds of laws covering various taxes at all levels of government. Title 26 of the US Code covers the Federal Income Tax and a few others collected by the IRS but it's hardly the only law on the books.

There is an amendment to the US constitution instituting an income tax, however because "income tax" is illegal by the original writing of the constitution, the amendment calls it something else. In order to make it passably legal, there are loopholes that allow you to avoid paing taxes, but these require filing TONS of paperwork that is more complicated than your worst nightmare of 1040s and incorrectly filing that paperwork CAN sometimes lead to dire consequences, including jail time. For a bit more information you might do a web search sometime on UCC1.
You CAN not pay taxes if you write a signed affidavit to your employer stating that you are a US citizen and do not want taxes taken out of your paycheck. However your employer is still required to report those wages paid, and the IRS will hunt you down come April to pay those back taxes.

Freedom is not free. It comes with an expensive price tag. We need to be strong to protect our way of life. Somebody needs to pay for our military, our elected officials, our fireman and police. Our country's national highways need constant repairs. Our rivers, lakes, postal service and schools needs someone to keep it going.

Sure there is!
Amendment 16 to the US Constitition:
"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."
We pay taxes to pay for government services. (FEMA, Medicare, Social Security, military, etc.)

There's no law written on the books saying we have to pay income taxes...
It is acually unconstitutional.
But FYI u income tax goes to the Federal Reserve, which is a group of large corporations in america like JP morgan, chase and rockefellers...
It is owed as interest on a ridiculously huge loan.
U should Wiki it.
Income tax goes to nothing but large corporations pocket. City tax, sales tax, property and state tax etc. go to fund schools and road and all that good stuff we need.
(Its written all over and constitutional to pay sales taxes and property taxes... etc..)
THIS IS A FACT RESEARCH IT TOO SEE FOR URSELF!
