only a stalker would ask such a question.
when i offer an answer, it applies to the question i answer.
what gives you this compulsion to follow people?
how many quality posters have you taken down already?
[edit]
it's ok, i checked your profile.
don't bother with the questions. i can entirely understand your spleen, dishonesty, and spiritual confusion.
you're a jw.

Squirt is correct in stating that some people have stalkers who will go through pages of resolved questions and answers seeking out a violation. That is precisely why my profile is private and I don't allow fans.
I've had questions 6 months old removed, (which proves that people go searching), and which in no way violated the TOS. These questions include:
"What wisdom did you learn from your grandparents?"
"What brought a smile to your face today?"
"What is something you hold sacred?"
"Of all the people you have known, who do you miss the most?"
You cannot tell me that these questions and others like them are in any way offensive and a violation, yet they have been removed. I've had over 100 such questions deleted, along with account suspensions, all because someone doesn't like me.
The privacy feature allows me to keep my account, along with the wonderful, heartfelt answers that people take the time to give in response to my questions.

Not necessarily. Sometimes people who don't like what you have to say will go back through all your old questions and answers reporting them. There's nothing cowardly about taking a simple measure to prevent them doing so.
I think the real cowards are the people who block those who they disagree with. Speaking of which, hello Smarty pants.

good question ... it made me wonder if there was any way to alert the Y!A people to possibly monitoring people who "OVER-report" ???
seems like a worthwhile variable to track ... if the user reports a load of people without having asked/answered many questions, it's "RED-FLAG" time ... time to ignore that user's "reports"
if a user reports zilllions of people-violations, send *their* account to the "rubber-room"
could Yahoo do that?
(sems like a simple account-variable to set up)
"keeps them honest"
oh yeah .. back to original question, maybe the "privacy" desire is "caution", not "cowardice"
edit:
"ahem ... the term 'elderly' might not be taken kindly by very many people .... and kindness might well be considered a virtue"

Sometimes it is cowardice, yes. But other times-- particularly with Top Contributors or those who have Christian trolls after them (I'm sure there must be atheist stalker-trolls around here too) it's just to keep people from reporting the hell out of them and getting them banned. If you make enemies, it's quite possible for people to nuke you off the face of Y!A.
It's unfortunate, but those people are just protecting themselves.

They value the level they have attained, and resent being stalked by malevolant community members. It is the only means they have to protect their accounts.
Personally, I could care less. It takes two minutes to make a new account, and the participation penalty is non existent if you are willing and able to create clones of yourself.

Exactly!!! People like that usually only have cruel things to say. I had one girl send me a bunch of obscene hate mail... simply because I wrote something silly & funny as an answer! I'll take the silly & funny answers ANYDAY over the CRUEL and nasty ones!!!

Kinda of neat question, but it is weird they want to rush in with an answer, yet on their profile hide it. lol kinda funny
In light of reading users answers, I now know why they are hid, but to be truthful, its kinda lame for someone to get mad at someones answers, and seek their profile to get them nuked from y/a, If this be the case, then I also may have to set my answers as hid.

Well i ask homework questions........ Some of my previous questions lend to my identity in real life. Now most of my profs would be cool with me asking questions on here.....some might not and would consider it cheating. Now i usually never ask for answers....and never give the entire homework assignement, so no one can do it for me.....i like to learn
I'm paranoid that a prof might see it. Realize its his homework question......reads my questions and then fails me.

Some might be. But I do respect people for having an ability such as being private, and using it. If it wasn't an option, then maybe they wouldn't have done it. But it is, so they have the right to be private.
