we recently shifted to a new house....the interior walls are rough and havent been smoothened; in a few areas there are large water soaked discoloured patches;there is already a pinkish cream coloured paint applied all over;the house is quite large......how much would smoothening and paint work cost?
we cant afford any huge expenses right now ..... do you think we can do it by ourselves without expensive manual labour('coz we are willing 2 devote our time n energy for it!)
help!!!asap!!!

by "not smoothened" i meant that the walls have not been plastered - its just rough cement...and for some reason paint has been applied directly over this surface...

To know more, you can visit any good paint shops and they can guide you.

My dad is a paint and wallpaper contractor in Southern California. He does free estimates. If the damage isn't too bad, you can do it yourself but water stains are a bad sign and the water problem needs to be fixed first before you try to fix the walls. I'm not sure what you mean by the walls not being "smoothened." If the walls have a nice texture, you can keep it that way or just sand it down until you like what you've got. It will take hours and hours of work. Good luck!

Give the walls a good sand down and then put up some thick lining paper no less than 1200. Hang this horizontally and then you can paint when dry. This should hide most of the flaws.

Or if the walls are really bad try ready mixed pollyfilla or plaster and smooth over yourself its really easy. Again you can sand down and line b 4 painting.

Find out first why the walls are discoloured. You do not say what is on the walls. If it is just a case of rubbing down then use a sander. If it is something like Artex you have got problems. The walls will have to be re plastered.
