whey protein is the best gainer... if you must take it - have only one shake- right after working out.
Doing more than 60min of cardio a day is not recommended - you burn more muscle than fat and your body starts storing fat.
When you go on low carb diet you lose most of water weight you have - creating an illusion of big weight loss. Track your results by measuring yourself - losing inches is whats really important- it means you are losing fat.
make sure you eat enough - only creating a slight deficit in daily caloric intake will make you lose fat. If you create deficit too big you will slow down your metabolism (i have done that before - and now if i dont eat enough i gain weight fast)
I would suggest you doing HIIT (hight intensity interval training) and weight training 3-4 times a week (dont work on the same muscle group 2 days in a row)

Designer Whey (it's the brand name) is a very effective, quality protein that is cost effective as well. I would take it following your work out. 1-2 grams per protein per pound of body weight per day of you are trying to gain muscle.
Also, glutamine following a work out is very effective. Glutamine protects your muscles from being used for energy and glutamine levels drop significantly immediately followng a work out. Not only is it important to build muscle but maintain what you have as well.
Creatine will help as well if you take the protein also. Creatine itself does not build significant muscle but will help you lift more, muscles recover faster and if taken with Protein (not at the sexact same time), the protein will help build muscle and you to keep it.
I'll tell you this, with supplements "quality is paramound" not always but usually. Cheap tricks and products don't work well.

I have been working out now for about 2 years. I take Creatine before and after a long workout. Also after a workout I take 100% whey protein. Every morning I take my multi-vitamins.
Here are some links to some supplements that might help you, because they work for me.

Also...you have to eat right. Find a diet that has a lot of protein in it. For instance, every morning i have eggs for breakfast along with a protein shake. Eat smaller meals and more of them. Peanut Butter has alot of protein in it too, as does fish, beef, and so on.
