Favorites are hard to pick. I mean, the gospels are probably the best. But I love Amos, and Hosea and Isaiah, too. They're so beautiful and poetic and tragic and hopeful. And full of language like this:
"Let justice flow like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream."
Peace to you.

Leviticus -- It's the most violent and absurd book in the Bible, and therefore, the one that demands a non-literal interpretation. Some highlights:
GOD HATES SHRIMP:
11:11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.
11:12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.
SACRIFICES REQUIRED AFTER CHILDBIRTH:
12:7 Who shall offer it before the LORD, and make an atonement for her; and she shall be cleansed from the issue of her blood. This is the law for her that hath born a male or a female.
12:8 And if she be not able to bring a lamb, then she shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons; the one for the burnt offering, and the other for a sin offering: and the priest shall make an atonement for her, and she shall be clean.
MENSTRUATING WOMEN ARE UNCLEAN:
15:21 And whosoever toucheth her bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
15:22 And whosoever toucheth any thing that she sat upon shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
VARIOUS DEATH PENALTIES FOR SEX:
20:11 And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
20:12 And if a man lie with his daughter in law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them.
20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

Romans. It may start out depressing because it tells us we all are sinners and tells us our punishment, but it ends with such great hope! And hope is so much better when there is a need for it. :-)
"Therefore being justified by grace we have PEACE WITH GOD through our Lord Jesus Christ." Romans 5:1

Growing up it was Samuel, because I liked the story of David and Goliath.
Now that I'm an atheist I like Genesis, because it's always good for a chuckle here and there.

I love the study for wisdom, so I would say Proverbs in the Old Testament. In the New Testament it would probably be Acts because it tells about the beginning of the church of my Lord.

The "New Catholic Picture Bible". It's the same as a real bible, only much more simplistic.

James, it is about actually living out what you believe. There are too many hypocrites that call themselves Christians in this society.
"The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians, who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable." -Brennan Manning
