Dear Cop:

You are out of your jurisdiction, aren't you, officer? Do you want to police grammar -or spelling?

But I'll try to give you an answer and avoid a fine. Several, in fact.

First of all, the damn S/C doesn't always or even frequently actually function, in my case. Sorry for cussing, officer. I meant "cursing. " I must trigger it right from the start of my material to make it work at all -if I wait until I'm finished, it simply doesn't respond. Probably because I have a slow connection.

Second, you gotta at least suspect that you may have misspelled something as a reminder to check your work. If you think everything is OK, why bother? But in fact, there are sum things that haint KO, yes? So, stupidity and ignorance count for a lot.

Third -and probably most often the case- you gotta CARE. It is crushingly evident, stunningly apparent, obvious, even, that most contributors simply don't care about how how clearly they write. It is all about, "you know what I mean." Problem is, even THEY don't know what they mean because their language skills are so terribly undeveloped they can't even THINK well. Yahoo seems to draw such people in a fly-paper kind of way. So, I guess we could say that hubris accounts for most fo the problem.

Ignorance, stupidity and hubris. The big three. Right here on Yahoo.

Maybe they do use it but if they don't know how to spell the word properly in the first place how will they know which option is the correct one?

People really need to get over this issue with spelling ... more the half the people using Yahoo Answers are typing in a second language and I say good on you for trying!!!!

I love spell check. I can spell, but I still love to press that button just to see the message: "No misspellings found." It's like a little pat on the back.

Some people spell so badly that spell check doesn't help them much. They look at the choices, and can't figure out which is right.

Of course, there are others who simply don't care. I'll let them speak for themselves (and hope that we can understand what they are trying to say).

I use it all the time before posting a question or answer. But just because a word or two may misspelled in some Q/A. As long as you get your point across what your asking does it really matter?

we are the lazy people who im too much, and can get the jist of what people are trying to say even when they spell things incorrectly. we also mostly dont realize that you cant. or that you just simply wont, b/c you think shortcuts and bad grammer are signatures of a slopy person.

The actually do. However, they don't know what button to push when an error is highlighted? Skip it? Change it? Hard to know what to do if you have no idea what you're doing.
