I was considering the experience of the Children of Israel when they left Egpyt which in most christian circles we know typifies the World. Then they came across the Red Sea which we realize also typifies Water Baptism. But between the Red Sea and the Good Land there was this Wilderness Experience.
In the Wilderness many things happened. But what I want to zero in on is that for the 40 years that they were there going in circles they were fed the manna each day. The manna came with the dew.
Back in Egypt the diet of the children of Israel was for that of garlic and other egyptian foods. But in the Wilderness all they were given was manna with dew.
My consideration was that their diet was gradually being adjusted by the Lord before they entered the Good land.
There is a lot of spiritual significance for us as believers. We are saved, baptised but there is much of the world in us. I believe that feeding of the Lord as the manna will flavour us according to Christ- The Good Land.

one of the important lesson of the manna outside of many others, is the lesson God was teaching His people about trust. When they wanted to gather more then one day supply it would rot. Each day they were depended on God to supply their needs and trust that He alone would give them what they needed. Although it cannot be identified by any know substance of this world it supplied all the nutrients needed for the body. It was a heavenly food far surpassing earthly benefits even in small portions and on a daily supply. The daily supply for me is a reminder that I need to feed my spirit with heavenly food of Christ daily to remain nourished. It is said that manna tasted bitter to the unbelievers which speaks true of God's word today. It is life and good health to the believer and bitterness to those who do not know God. For the righteous it has been said it was easily found and for the unrighteous it has been said it could not be grasped and would slip through their fingers on their hand.

I think the thing I focus on with their journey is the fact that they could have gone into the promise land very shortly after leaving Egypt. Because of disobedience they wondered, round and round till all those were dead and gone who wouldn't go in. They even railed against the Manna that kept them alive, when all they had to do is walk outside their tent and pick it up. Just think about a people who had been slaves and worked no doubt till they couldn't see to work. Then having to go home and work to do things they needed to do. All they had known for their whole lives was very hard work. Not to mintion the fact that they were slaves they had no promise, no hope of a better life for their children. Now all their prayers were answered and all they had to do is walk in and claim them. We do that, God has so much stored up for his children that we will never claim because of our lack of faith.
I think this wondering shows us a picture of how we can by being unwilling to change or grow, can cause us misery. When a christian is unwilling to have an open mind, the truth of Gods word comes to them but they won't recieve it in order to change. They lean toward things they have learned in the past. Whether it is from their, family, old church doctrines, or what they have decided within themselves. Without truth of the word we cannot grow spiritually. There is a lot of truths in the word that many people skip over because they don't want to realize that truth for them. Rebellion is and has always been the one thing that causes the human race to fail in its attempts to get to God or for Christians to serve God well .
I know in my life the times that I have been able to feed on his manna has helped me to get through the hard times in life. The hope of having that sweet manna another day helps me to keep walking toward the goal, that is the Lord Jesus Christ. I don't know if I gave you the answer you wanted but this is where my thought process took me upon reading your question.
Thanks Sister for all the questions, that spark the thoughts that keep our mind on Christ, as we should do for our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Always your sister in Christ

I was just thinking about the cleansing process today. I was looking back in my life and realized how far I have come. I was so immature when I first became a Christian, so full of pride. I know I have more to be taken out of my life also. I am thankful that He did not leave me the way I was, as hard as it has been for me. I was thinking about Job and how He allowed satan to buff him, but God knew what the outcome was going to be. We need to trust that God knows the end and allow Him to clean up our act and our heart. Everything that God does in and through us is for a purpose that will not only bring glory to Him, but will bring happiness to our own life.

God had to prepare the children for the Good Land. He had to get their hearts and faith right. I heard one time that the trip from Egypt to the Promise Land was only a 40 day trip but it took the children 40 years. Why? Because they lack faith, they were disobedience and their desire to follow the ways of the world. Each time they failed in faith, God send them around the mountain. When they were ready spiritually God send them into the Promise Land..We are like that in our spiritually life, we are at time disobedient and worldly; when this happens God sends us around our mountain. He disciplines us because He loves us and wants us to be the best. Discipline is not something you do to someone; it is something that He does for us...Once we return from our mountain experience, we see how God's love is so perfect. yours in Christ Blue316

That's a really good thought. I like that.

What I had always pondered that no matter how the Isrealites complained, even in the face of the miracles that they had witnessed, even when Moses himself grew tired of their whining and lack of faith, God always, always provided a way for them, always fed them, always offered a means of salvation--if only they would accept it.

You say that manna was a kind of cleansing food. I think too, that it was a food that came from faith (remember how, if too much was gathered, to be horded, it had to be thrown away?) This taught the people to remember that God provides EVERY DAY, if they have faith.

Wilderness...is it about the virgin forests, where all kinds of animals roam around, freely?... But with manna... as I have read in the Bible... "do not eat manna because you will surely die..." a verse that got stuck in my mind for a long time. Manna... what is manna... in our words 'mana' is inheritance... and been wondering if that words was what it means but found out that it was food. And how would the verse mean that " you'll surely die.."... is a little bit of annoyed about it but then it must be poisonous but found out that it was not but can cause constipation.

So, in it... a wilderness was in my mind of the word 'manna'.

Adjustment period,and a learning period.
The apostle Paul went into the wilderness for 14 years, being taught of God, even though he had thorough knowledge of the scriptures...

God was making a Nation of People, His chosen ones..... they were being prepared for that act.... and He was showing them His power, who He was, what He could do for and with them , IF they would only believe ..... He was teaching them how to walk, trust, worship, have faith, rely on Him..... Today we are lead into that wilderness for the same reasons, other than the *Chosen People* part, we are the Bride, we are being prepared for that part, to be made perfect and ready for Jesus to gather us to himself..... go in peace..... God bless

man can not live by bread alone
but LIVE! by the words that come out of the mouth of GOD(prophets/priests today apostles to teachers, to minister to music lyrics.
THEN came the LAW OF MOSES..where SIN is reveled.(knowledge of good and evil)
the came rules and regualation..no divorce, clean sex life, clean hands before eating, (manners were taught) honor and respect were taught, burn whatever is moldy.(wood, clothes, ect) you forgot the faith teaching.teh IN GOD WE TRUST teaching(ps 91) GOD moves by our FAITH..not needs..or wants.Hebrew 10:23 to 11:6 speak what Faith is.and How to prosper from works of faith.
YET..without LOVE, faith don't work.
for Faith work by LOVE..GOD is love.the word is JESUS.
power is the holy spirit..we got all three..today.
and GOD tried to give it all back then.but slave mentality vs kingly mentallity is why they died as slaves.
they died and yet witness provision of clothes sandals ever worn out? the first generation died off and the last generation enter into the promise land, same apply today.
the frist will be last and the last will be first.
younger generation are more willing to be in the impossible, while the older generation taught/trained in unbelief, not baptized with holy spirit, which is where spirit of faith is..spirit of poweris..spirit to love, spirit of truth..(apostleship terrority)..20 years ago, traditional church deny healing, today some accept.traditional still reject prosperity(crown of thorns/curse had been paid for.by his blood) and traditional churches deny the power of the holy spirit..as in tongues, laying of hands, casting out demons, multiply food, no poison can kill..ect..john 14:12 we will do all these things and greater works shall we do..for HE goes tothe father..and all power in heaven and earth has been given to JESUS..our headship..and HE JESUS turn and gave it TO YOU..and me and US..I believe..therefore it works.by belief/faith..believe not..it work not. wilderness living is proving ground of who is your spiritual husband.JESUS or satan..no man is a god spirit enity of it own power..our vessel is empty..we have to connect to either one..that hwy..love of money connect us to satan..and being a tither..a lover..a giver..a peacekeeper is born of CHRIST..as HE is..so are we..in this world. we too are new creature..just as Christ became a man..having nothing of God divinenature, till water and spiritual baptism..he then had thenatureof GOD..and guess what...so do we.
IF you believe..what is written..the promise land is soon upon us..separating sheep and goat. separating 10 virgin bride..5 has the holy spiit..5 don't have it.and 5 enter the wedding dinner..in heaven..them left on earth..dies and enter heaven..vs being caught up. IF? they pass the test of dying to self, many will be suffered terribly, many will turn away just fora bowl of soup..like Esau.. who sold his righteousness/birthrights for food to eat.

The wilderness is defined as a place where sheep are kept, especially if preceded by the article THE.
