Compassion for others. History shows us that the sick have always helped the sick.
Gratitude for comfort and healing.
Though we may experience pain, we may also appreciate the help of others.
Patience, empathy, and a deeper appreciation of the preciousness of life.
We may realize that we can't do much about some things,
but we can do something about our attitude toward affliction whether its our pain or someone else's.
Pain and suffering can also produce fear, bitterness,
anxiety, loneliness and deep despair.
That why it is so vital we all do what we can to comfort and support those in affliction.

Very interesting question!

"The Sword"
In the corner of a medieval blacksmith shop there laid an old sword that was damaged and of little use. It laid there for years unnoticed.
One summer day a young apprentice spotted it and inquired about it. The blacksmith said it had little value and told the apprentice to take his mind off of it.
As time passed the young apprentice was given a project by the blacksmith. This project was to make something out of literally nothing. The blacksmith told the young apprentice to be "Creative".
The young apprentice remembered the sword, and retrieved it from the corner. Needless to say the sword was overjoyed just in being touched by a human.
The young apprentice slaved diligently in bringing the battered old sword back to life.
In this process the sword needed to be tempered. The heat almost became overpowering for the sword. The sword said to itself, why am I being tortured and abused, as I was in the past. Oh, there was such pain for the sword. The sword was unaware of what work was being preformed. A few days passed and the young apprentice was scheduled to turn in his project. When the blacksmith saw the newly refinished sword he was amazed. In response to some kind words from the blacksmith, the young apprentice said this to the blacksmith: "I wanted to return this sword to it's original pristine condition so it would be fit for a king."
This sword eventually did become a sword owned by a king. Thanks to a process called "Tempering".

"May we all be brought back into our original pristine condition, so that we are presentable to a King!"

*Gods Grace is showered unto all humans without prejudice, no matter what station a person holds in life!
There are times that those that are carrying an affliction are but teaching those without afflictions, the lessons of Mercy and Compassion. It's up to those without afflictions to plant these lessons within their inner heart!

Experience and Appreciation for the times when not afflicted

Well, let's see. I am 40 now, when I was 20, I would not have been able to put up with half the garbage that I do now. I am stronger, more patient, more selfless, wiser, I know when to shut up, I know how to stand up for myself, and I know when to throw in the towel and when I should just keep chugging along. I am kind of grateful for the stuff that has happened to me. (And guess what? Half of my "afflictions" I brought onto myself by my own stubborness and stupidity.)

WHen we allow GOd to truly be the head of our life, and listen to His Spirit, we will learn the true meaning in life, as we go thru different things, such as afflictions. WE can pray to God to heal us from them, and we leave the rest to God. Sometimes physical healing comes, or spiritual, but healing will come when you confess it to God.
In the meantime, we know this world is temporary, and we can teach others the true meaning of life by showing that no matter what we go thru, we still have Gods joy and peace in all things, knowing that we have our full trust for Him, and He will take us to the purpose and destiny He has given to us, if we will only Hear and OBEy. God bless you.

That would depend on the affliction. Like my son who was burned and my daughter who was hit by a car now crippled. I am not strong but I have faith. They will both one day tell their stories of how God saved them My daughter is unable to speak right now but she will. This was not God`s doing but God will certainly turn it into something awesome!

God bless!

I have much history with the Lord. I could write a book on this one. The main example of this I can think of off the top of my head is when I lived up north in the boondocks. I mean we lived in the woods and wilderness when I was first married when I was young. We were poor and had to live basically off a disgusting deer we shot for food and all of the veggies in our garden and what ever wild berries grew nearby. We had one wood burning stove in the middle of our house that was for heat in the entire house. I would wake up some mornings and see a chunk of ice in the shower drain! It was very difficult living. But later when we moved, I realized the Lord taught me how to live off the land up there, how to can and freeze food, how to plant a beautiful productive garden and how to fell trees and burn wood for fuel. And most of all .......... He gave me because of that a wonderful deep appreciation for everything in my life, simple comforts that other people probably take for granted. He promised to work ALL things for GOOD to those who love Him, and I will testify that He surely does. God bless you brother.

We learn from these trials.
Through these times, if we slow down we can glean knowledge, wisdom & hopefully some patience.
However, we can sometimes bring on trials through bad choices. By getting ahead of God.
We need to be lead by the Holy Spirit.
Always be alert & sensitive to God's voice....Blessings..........
