When a atheist dies, do they have a proper burial with a headstone in all? I mean if you folks believe that we are just inert matter then you would be content with your body being dumped in the trash? I think it would be unbecoming of a atheist to have a marked grave because if you truely believe we are just inert matter having a marked grave would be stupid because it would be marking dirt, right? Iam in no way putting down your ideology, iam just curious.

I think if you truely are a Atheist you wouldnt mark inert matter. Why would you want your kids to visit something that is just dirt? Its not you.

That's funny that you'd say "dumped into the trash" because according to my living will (posted on myspace) my service will be performed at the city dump.
Actually I plan to be cremated because I don't think the earth's free space should be taken up by dead bodies.

I've already arranged to have my body disposed of in the cheapest manner and bought a plaque to be set in the Vietnam Veterans' wall in my town.

I did investigate giving my body to a University but I gotta live within 100 km and I don't.
My license states that I'm a full on donor; 'they' can take what they want; I won’t be needing any of it.

I'm anti taking up valuable real estate like so many of you Xians do with your ego-driven, celebratory tombstones and such.
How silly and pointless is that?

"Iam[sic] in no way putting down your ideology"
Crap. You forget that we're smarter than fundies.

Do I think I'm smart cos I'm an atheist?
Nah; I'm an atheist cos I'm so damned smart.

[edit]
You're a nasty LITTLE fundie, aren't you?

If you are not putting down an ideology your choice of the word stupid is called into play... Calling something stupid is putting it down making your entire assertion moot...

As for the rest, I could care less whether or not my body was dumped in the trash, however the Public Health Department has a big problem with it...

My body (what's left after organ donation) will be cremated and the crematorium will dispose of the ashes. I don't want my kids making trips to visit a spot where my corpse is buried, or thinking that I'm still around somewhere. I've discussed this with both of them and they understand that once I have died, I will no longer exist in any form, and that the body is nothing to be concerned about.

No. Most atheists who choose burial actually have headstones or grave markers. They are there for the loved ones who remain living who would want to remember them.

Other atheists choose cremation.

My burial directives specify that I'm to be cremated, my cremains placed in a paper bag, and a trusted friend is to be given them so he can bury them at a randomly chosen latitude and longitude in my home state then never reveal the actual location to any one.

My directives also ask that family and friends do all they can to destroy any official or personal evidence of my having ever existed.

Personally I would like a woodland burial, no marker, just dig a hole, plant my bones then plant a tree to feed from my remains. The tree in turn would provide food for other living things and so the cycle of life continues. That is real immortality.

I don't need a headstone when I die. I just want my body dumped in the ground somewhere to give back to the soil.

My non-belief in invisible sky gods and fantastical clouds palaces has nothing to do with my wanting my body to be treated with respect.

Even more so, as atheists belive that the dead body is the only thing left.

Athiest do not follow any religious rule. As a general rule we throw used things into the trash. According to this rule they should be thrown in trash. But we have a great relationship with them. That is Humanity. We should treat them with respect even if they do not believ in God. We should burry them if they want.
We should pray for them. They are our beloved humans.
