Hi there again Tanya...tapeworms will not show up on a fecal float test. This test looks for other intestinal parasites. Most tapeworm infestations are evident by the rice-like segments you see around the anus or in the feces.

If both cats had been ravaged by fleas, both will likely will have tapeworms and need to be treated respetively with the specific dewormer for tapeworms.

It works great and I have used it on my cat when I first got him a year ago and he is still tapeworm free and just 1/2 pill was used.
You can get it Petco or Petsmart.

cats and dogs can get tapeworm if they eat or accidentally swalow a flea... so maybe that's what happened....

i guess that the vet missed the tapeworms, for whatever reason.. maybe just call him and let him know... usually they are detected when you see a piece of one on the cat... i'm sure your vet will give you the med.. take care.
