I used to be more of an optimist, but since My Steve committed suicide, I've had a lot of changes. Now I have to work at optimism. Still, I think it's better than pessimism. And I don't buy the idea that a pessimist is more of a realist than an optimist. The fact is, we are each potentially agents of change. We get to be part of the progress, the solution to problems, the compassion and understanding, all those things that are needed for growth and development.
If I wasn't something of an optimist, would I continue to answer questions on Y!A? In R&S?

I was always told that if you say the glass is half full you're an optimist and if you say it's half empty you're a pessimist. Then one day I caught myself saying "It's still half full" and decided that i must be an optimist. Of course, I was convincing my sister to give me her full coca cola for the one I had almost finished.
I think we choose when we want to be optimistic and when we want to be pessimistic. Circumstances change things.

Realist. Almost every glass is completely full. Usually what is not liquid or solid in the glass is air. The exceptions would require a vacuum in the glass. But on a conversational scale, I usually call it "Half of a glass of water".

I'm a pessimist, but somehow I've managed to convince everybody who knows me that I'm an optimist. It's really weird.

Optimistic. In time all things will get better. There may be some bumps in the road along the way, but they will get better.

Complete optimist.... so long as I keep eternity with Jesus in mind. When I let that slip out of my mind and focus on the "urgent" and "pressing" matters of the day, it is easy to be pessimistic, particularly in matters about my own life.
I suppose this is why Jesus commands us to lose our focus on our own lives and focus on the lives of others.

Neither. It's just one more glass I have to wash at the end of the day.
