Social / Professional gathering, exclusive upscale suite, coats and tails! What should I as a teetolar male order? Suggestions of some good mocktails would be great!

Perhaps some modifications are in order. It's going to be a small group of people at a private table. Three of the group are my friends who will perhaps appreciate me being the DD. The other 3-4 people at the table are going to be professional contacts (at a higher level than me). My first choice was to go with a diet soda with a twist - I was just wondering if that would be considered juvenile/socially inept. Not talking about the no-alcohol part, but my choice of the non-alcoholic drink...

Soda or any fancy bottled water with a twist of lime.

Soda water and lemon or lime, Ginger Ale or Cola drinks are all acceptable. You can even order soda water with a bit of cranberry juice in it if you want something a bit different.

If anyone is uneducated enough to give you a difficult time about not drinking alcohol, just tell them that you have to drive and do not take any chances with alcohol when you are driving.

This most likely will not be a problem. many parties similar to what you are writing about will have a large percentage of people who do not drink.

Good luck and have fun. I have been the designated driver on many a social occasion, and know right where you are coming from.

Water, tonic water, sparkling water, cola with ice, Seven Up or Sprite, with ice, any juices, ginger ale, Mountain Dew, etc.

What leads you to believe that non-alcoholic drinks are, socially, UNacceptabale?

I mean, you COULD order a Shirley Temple, or Roy Rogers, but I'm afraid that ordering these juvenile "mock-tails" will do more harm to your social standing than, simply, circulating the event with a Coke in your hand.

there is no standard it all goes on what you like to drink not what people think you should be drinking. this goes for alcoholic drinks as well.
at a wedding type thing:
If wine is being served then the none alcoholic brand of whine & if they do not have it bring it your self or drink ginger ale or a clear soda like 7up for toasts. then drink what you like after!
