quietly get married at the courthouse so that it is official, but still do a destination wedding for show wherever you want.

There are plenty of great locations for a destination wedding. If you want tropical, nothing beats Hawaii (Maui is gorgeous, and all the beaches are public so you don't even need a permit to get married on the beach. The bad thing about Hawaii is that it can be expensive to travel and stay there--which means a lot of your guests may not be able to go to your wedding (but if you want a small intimate wedding--that could be a good thing).
Another romantic place to get married is Napa Valley, CA (or any of the surrounding cities--e.g., Sonoma). Santa Barbara, CA is also gorgeous, but it can be expensive.
If you want to get married in the winter, but want a warm destination, could be Miami is a good bet.
If you are adventurous and like the great outdoors, you could consider Colorado or Arizona, or even Mammoth or Lake Arrowhead in California. A friend of mine got married in Lake Arrowhead--it was really inexpensive--and the views were gorgeous.
I would stay away from major cities like NY and LA where your wedding costs will skyrocket just because of the location--unless you really have your heart set on one of these places.
If you are really set on a foreign location, you could always make it official in the states, but have your celebration abroad.
Good luck!

My BF wished to do the desitination yet they desperate to not through this reason: They felt they have been telling human beings the place they have been to trip and how they spent their money that 365 days. They felt very impolite and uncomfortable with making human beings use their money and time for sooner or later of their existence. and likewise that folk could do it begrudgingly because of the fact it turn into their wedding ceremony and not basically yet another day. so as that they desperate on doing a marriage at a place around the place they lived, I dont think of they might have been happier with the way each little thing became out. And afterwards I asked if that they have been unhappy that they hadnt long gone to the Keys to get married as they initially planned. They the two mentioned that they have got been plenty happier that they had the "huge" wedding ceremony, they have been waiting to proportion with every physique as a replace of basically a opt for few. And it actual handed my sisters wedding ceremony (which had sat atop my suitable 10 weddings checklist for 12 years), I dont think of it could have been as specific an afternoon if she had long gone away. solid good fortune inclusive of your determination.

I would really suggest Napa or Sonoma Valley in California. I would try to suggest doing this in a time of year where it will be unbearable in Texas, but great in California. Crush is always a great time, which is in late August to early October.
This also allows your guests to experience a true vacation and to be able to see and "taste" their way through the valley.
There are so many resources that you can look through in the Napa and Sonoma Valley, even out there in Texas. I would one suggest doing a search for "napa caterers" since many of them know where to go, what works and what can be done on a budget. One really good site to check out is www.piperjohnsoncatering.com. They have tons and tons of info and can really narrow down places, costs and really try to figure out what you are looking for.
Also, try the conference and visitors bureau's website and see what kind of information is on there.
If you are not sold on going to California, go to any different area that you are thinking of and research. Look through caterers, day of coordinators, wedding sites and type in the name of the city or county after you have narrowed down where you are thinking of. It is always nice to have them explain what the amenities are in each particular place, what time you can have dancing till, guests, if there are accommodations, etc. on site or not...
Good luck and I wish you all the best

We ran into the same prob... I wanted to go to Paris to tie the knot, but you have to live there for 40 consecutive days to do so. So we decided to go to a different county here in Tenn and do it at the courthouse (that way it won't be in our local paper), then have a symbolic ceremony with the dress and all in Paris. Then we will tell everyone we got married in Paris, and celebrate that day as our anniversary. Where were you planning on getting married? I know alot of different countries/places you are able to get married there, you just have to send paperwork to their courthouse prior to your date... this holds true in Vienna, Austria- we were checking on doing it there.

Wiamea Park on the island of Oahu. It is beautiful and you can got to the Polynesian Cultural Center afterwards for dinner and a luau. It is beautiful there under the banyons and near a waterfall. But if you do that you have to go in advance and have a physical exam to get your license.

The wayfarers chapel in southern california, catalina island in southern california, and at a vineyard up in napa valley. So any of those choices i would highly recommend. good luck.

Las Vegas is the easiest, fastest place to marry. Plus the desert area is beautiful.
