Beginning on day one in the U.S. Navy you will be observed and evaluated! Provided you are a top performer and show a propensity for leadership - your chances of working toward an officer training program are quite good. There are very many avenues toward becoming a Naval Officer. Just to name a few - Annapolis (need to be single), Officer Candidate school, and several enlisted to officer (mustang) programs.
Once again, it all depends on you! If your a hard charger, take on the challenging jobs and succeed, your chances to be selected for an Officer Candidate Programs is excellent. But, if your the average worker, drift along non-achiever you can forget it.
Talk to your recruiter and he'll give you the straight story. Hope your ready for a lot of sea time because that's what the navy is all about.

Naval Officers must have a 4 year degree, preferably with a 3.5 or better GPA in a Hard Science like Engineering.

Getting a 4 year degree is pretty difficult to do while on AD unless you come in with a lot of credits already.

Ways to commission:

1: ROTC in College
2: Enlist, then apply to STA-21(4 year degree in under 3 years while attending school full time)
3: Enlist, then work your way up to E6 or E7 and apply to LDO or Warrant Programs( can easily take ten years )
4: apply for Baccalaureate Degree Commissioning Program while in college
5: finish college on your own dime and time, than apply to OCS directly.
6: enlist, complete your term, get out and use the GI Bill, then try and get back in as an Officer via OCS.

You need a college degree to become a Naval Officer. So go to college first, then enist and go to OCS Officer Candidate School. Apply to and be accepted at the Naval Academy (Annapolis), Apply for NROTC and attend college at a University with a NROTC program. You could enlist, earn a degree while an enlistedman, then apply for OCS

You ned to get your BS to be an officer. There are also many enlisted to officer programs out there. Check with your ESO when you get to your first ship. Take advantage of the many college programs offered at sea and shore tuition assistance programs. Good luck!
