I've been leafing through some of the Q&A in Pregnancy, and when it comes to some of the "what do I do" questions, a lot of people are getting the thumbs down sign for suggesting adoption! WTF, why are people poo-pooing adoption when someone doens't want to keep a baby?

Nothing is wrong with adoption. A lot is wrong with saying that adoption is the only option and that women should not terminate a pregnancy, even if they think it's the right thing to do.
It's not about suggesting adoption- adoption is a selfless and mature thing to do. It's about being anti-choice and not respecting a woman's integrity.

I don't understand people who would not be supportive of a woman's right to place her baby into a home that will love the child and raise it when the birth parents either can't, or aren't prepared to. Would they rather the biological mother have an abortion?
Not everyone can financially/emotionally support a child and placing it for adoption is one of the most selfless and loving things a birth mother can do, under those circumstances.
In the end... It's the decision of the pregnant woman and (if he's involved) the birth father. No one else's. Period.

There's nothing wrong with an adoption. There's a chance the kid will be terribly screwed up, (believe me, my cousins are adopted... yikes) but at least they are ALIVE. But then again, they could have a loving family and a wonderful life. (I know people that way too.) I'm pro-choice, but I think adoption is the best way to go, and would be offended if someone gave me a thumbs down.

ya.. wouldnt you rather have a kid put up for adoption than be kept by a parent who doesnt want it???
also to any one who gives a thumbs down to people suggeting abortion - I wonder how many crack addicted or fetal alcohol babys they have adopted???
sometimes the right choice is the hardest one to make, as long as we condemn women for making tough choices that we may never have to make ourselves we are not helping anyone

I don't know! How odd is that, people turning down the most loving act of good will a mother could give her child if she is unable to care for her baby...I guess some people would rather see the baby dismembered and sucked out through a vacuum into a sink.

Because they are ignorant zealots. Sorry, but if a Young girl gets pregnant I would much rather see her put her baby put up for adoption instead of aborted, or if they keep the baby, the baby not having the basics because they can't afford them. My ste-daughter's EX-best friend was going to give her oldest up for adoption and changed her mind. That poor child is so ignored. She just gets plopped in front of the TV. She is so far behind on her development it is ridiculous. My son is 6 months younger than her (But he was also born almost 3 months early) and he is WAY ahead of her as far as development.

I agree that that's ridiculous. There are a lot of self righteous people out there who will claim that because you were irresponsible enough to get pregnant you should have to suffer the consequences of your actions by keeping the child. However, this more often than not would lead to a poorer life for the child. It will be raised by people who are either too young, too poor, or too immature to really care for it. Blind justice will only force the child to pay for the indiscretions of its parents.

my wife was adopted. I thank god for her. she had a loving family raise her and now she has found her birth mother too. If she had done the alternative I would never have found such a beautiful woman.

i think adoption is wonderful. it reminds me of how anyone, from any background, can be brought into God's family through Jesus. The Bible actually talks about adoption. What a wonderful gift!
