i don't think just memorizing anything is useful unless you understand what it is that you're reading.

Memorizing just the grocery list would do me a world of good.

Memorizing any Chinese food menu would be quite useful too since they all carry the same dishes yet I always stare at the menu for 10 minutes reading it anyway.

Both are more useful than memorizing the bible, unless you want to be the minister of a mega church and live in a huge house...well, that's another story. Then, random bible quotes would be quite useful.

Yes! I'd save TONS because I wouldn't have to call Information. And why would I need to memorize the bible? I've got too many good books in my head already.

Neither is useful at all, and I say that as a Christian.

I'm an English teacher in Taiwan, and memorizing has very limited use. Some of my students can flawlessly parrot an English paragraph they have memorized, and sound English while they do so. The trouble is, there is no comprehension whatsoever. It is a sad fact that, to many Asian students, getting a good grade is more important than learning anything.

It is much more important to be guided by the Bible to learn how to be a good and kind and decent person, as opposed to being able to say who begat whom, or learning about Old Testament midgets like Knee High Mya or shady businessmen like Used Car Lot, or whatever his name was.

While I would say yes that memorizing the phone book would be more useful...memorizing the bible makes it easier to have good arguments with bible thumping christians.

No. It would probably take you a year to memorize the phone book, and by that time it would be out of date.

Yeah, if you thought that memorizing people's phone numbers were more important than receiving eternal life in Heaven.

I can't think of an instance where memorizing the Phone Book would ever be useful(unless of course you're in a certain tri-city area and aren't near a phone book, which is really unlikely, They're everywhere!)
