I lived in Sitka, Alaska, I was out fishing for Halibut, I got a tug on the line, I set the hook, it took off, I slowed it up and started to reel it in, I got it to the surface, it took off again, that happened a number of times, it took me about 45 min.s to bring it in from first tug to land it, it was too big to pull it on the boat, I had to slowly tow it to land, gaff it, and drag it to land. I didn't weight it, but it had to weight at least 150 lbs. Now that was fun!

I was visiting my family in Ky. and my brother and I had been doing a lot of pond and river fishing, but on this particular day we went squirrel hunting on my sisters farm. We only saw maybe 2 squirrels and neither of us had any success. On the way out we passed a small pond and both just looked at each other, then I said I'm game if you are. We had some chicken liver, left over from river fishing the night before, and he had a tackle box. We did not have all the poles, so I ended up using 1 decent but cheap zebco and one of his daughters poles ( I think it was a snoopy pole) one of those 2 footers. He tied on some lures and started off around the lake, while I hooked up for catfish. He wasn't even halfway around the pond when I got a huge bite on the snoopy pole. I hooked it but the plastic geared reel couldn't begging to bring it in. I was hollering for him to come help, but he was laughing too hard. I ended up grabbing the line and running back up the bank until I dragged out about an 8 lb catfish, this continued for a while and I had 4 6-8 pounders on the stringer by the time he got around the lake. He wasn't laughing when he took off his lure and said give me some of that chicken liver (I was).
We had a heck of a catfish fry that night!
I don't think my sister even knew that there were fish in that pond, as they had never fished it, strange but true!

As I quite often will do I will fish and every opportunity. This one particular day I had just finished a 14 hour shift, yet couldn't pass up the good weather at the end of the summer. I went to my favorite carp fishing spot, chummed with some corn, cast my line out and proceeded to wait. As it happens I was getting no action, my cell phone rings and as I stand there talking I notice a little movement in the line. It stops so I continue talking, then all of a sudden the line and poll jump. The poll comes off the stick I have it set on and jumps into the water, I have no choice but to follow it in, so with one hand I hold up the cell phone and with the other I try to grab the pole and miss. It lurches forward again as do I. I can just imagine the site, left arm pointed high in the air while the rest of me almost waste deep finally grabs the poll with my right hand. Now all this time the wife is still on the phone with me, and I am laughing telling her what just happened. What I didn't know was that in all the drama the bail opened up. As I hung up with the wife I noticed this closed it and the fish was hooked. Wasn't the largest carp I have ever caught, but still came in just over 18 pounds. I wish someone had been there with a video. I was soaked.

Well one day i was fishing a small bass pond by canoe out on the state game lands. I had a big sized bass hooked, after he gulped down a scented rubber worm. I was just about to land him and this gigantic thing swam up from the bottom of the pond (which was only 5 feet deep at the most) and grabbed the bass by the lower half of its body. It was one of the biggest snapping turtle I have ever seen! he was at least as big as a car tire! he practically ripped the fish in half as I let go. I probably let one of the biggest bass I have ever caught get away to a snapping turtle! It practically scared the crap out of me when he grabed the fish! he then turned around and swam back into the depths!

Well my uncle and I were fishing a bass tourny and we were fishing a rocky bank with texas rigged baits. My uncle had to take a leak , put his pole under his arm pit with the bait still out in the water. He told me watch I will catch a bass while taking a leak. He started to go and all of a sudden he grabbed his pole set the hook and a 3 lb bass was reeled in, it was funny, amazing and very lucky. I will never forget it , it wasn't hooked already either.

Ive caught a few fish in my time however, nothing that i would tell the story about over and over again, my biggest rainbow trout to this day is 23lbs but it was farmed and not wild so i don't count it as huge maybe the best time is just out fishing for wild brown trout, one thing i will say is that a wild 3lb brown put up more of a fight than the 23lb rainbow. Deep sea fishing for marlin and shark is a great adrenaline rush when you get one on, that's always good fun.

i was fishing for blue gill to use for catfish bait at a local pay lake. I was using small pieces of night crawler in east fork lake in ohio. I would tug on the line randomly because the little bluegill werent big enough to take under the bobber just pull it across the water. well after i caught a few blue gills i casted out and waited. then WHOOMPP, a probably 7 or 8 pound largemouth blew up on my bobber! I guess he thought it was a fish. well needless to say i didnt catch him seeing how a bobber is hookless but it was exciting to see. scared me to death to be quite honest

I like many species of fish, so I fish in varied places.
One familiar fish though, wild brown trout.
My bro and I were fishing a very clear spring creek in western Wisconsin. Super spooky trout and a high bank, so it was tough to get up on them
From our vantage point we saw a pod of six browns taking emerging nymphs as they washed down stream from a riffle. we had fished to a few other trout activly doing the same down stream with no luck.
I had my brother stay up on the bank and act as spotter. I walked back downstream about 150yds, enetred the water and began to very very slowly wade up behind them like a heron.
I tied on a size 18 partridge and yellow wet fly (barbless), carefully positioned myself to make a cast to the outside of the pod and upstream (to allow my fly to drift into the feeding lane).
I was fishing a three weight rod with a 6x tippet (very fine) and hooked the first of the pod on the first cast.
I quickly played it into the current so it would not arise the suspision of the other trout.
These were not big fish, the largest perhaps 11", but as I said they were picky and spooky.
with my brother spotting and the stealth I was able to catch (and release) all six of the trout in that pod!
I felt like a surgeon or something, casting to each sucsessive trout on the outside of the pod, playing them away from the rest....very rewarding.

My buddy came home one day after fishing and was very frustrated! He said he saw this huge Pike in the river, but everything he threw at it, it just wouldn't bite! He said it just sat there. He went again the next day, and it was still in the same area, and wouldn't bite, same thing! I said, we'll go saturday, and we'll catch this thing, he said yeah right! So we went a few days later, and this fish and another big pike were there, and again, they didn't touch anything, lures, live bait, nothing! So I took out a saltwater treble hook, and I said i'm gonna snag it. He said, yeah right, you'll just scare it off, don't do it!! I said, watch! I cast it beyond the fish, and tried, but missed, and scared one off! Then tried a second cast, and the fish moved into a shadow, I couldn't see it anymore. I gave one blind snag and I hit! Now, it was much bigger than we thought! I only had like 8 lb test line, and this fish ended up being 13 lbs!, no joke! It took like 45 minutes to get it in. Everytime i got it close to us, it took off into deeper water again. We had no idea how we were going to land it. My buddy even thought about leaving and going to buy a net! Finally, i told him to go get me a stick so I can club it. He said, yeah right, you'll just scare it right off the line! I finally talked him into getting me one, and I got it in close to me (i was now in the water with the fish). I swung, and missed! He went into deep water again! I worked him back in slowly again, probably like 10 minutes worth, and tried again. This time I hit it! It was 27 inches, 13 lbs., first and only Pike I ever caught! We joke about this story all the time, what a day!
