Nestlé's marketing department caught up with me, and a coupon for a free can of Good Start landed in my mailbox today.

Does anybody use it as something with which to nourish orphaned raccoons or something? What can I do with it?

These are all (er...mostly) good answers (Xmas tree: HA!) -- thanks. Re donating: I'm in Ottawa and was kind of bothered by this:

Still a bit bothered, apparently. Hmm.

Your comment was rude. Some people have different reasons for using formula and you need to respect this choice. Yes, breast is best, but when you are unable to breastfeed for various reasons, you need to supplement with formula as ultimately your baby needs to be fed. Think of those mothers that need to return to work to make ends meat and have no choice but to supplement as they are unable to pump milk or think of those women who just do not produce enough due to various reasons such as breast reductions. Perhaps you could donate the formula to a women's shelter who would totally appreciate the value of it so that her baby would not go hungry. So before you make such a rude remark, understand others plight might not be the same as yours and please give them the respect they deserve!

I donated the stuff I got from Enfamil to the homeless shelter down the street from my school. They were thrilled to receive it. I had 3 cans for them.

Michelle's comment was rude!

What do you suppose would happen if they put a breastfeeding flyer in these mailings they send? Nope, they won't. Why? Because there is a market for formula and not for breastfeeding. Someone is making money off of the formula. Twisted!

I put mine on Freecycle. I figure I'm probably not gonna stop someone from buying the formula, I might as well save someone the $15-20. Or save the taxpayers the $15-20 from WIC having to buy it...

I was selling the checks they sent me on ebay, but I decided I was uncomfortable with that. They must have figured out what I was doing, because I don't get them anymore.

Uses For Baby Formula

I have received quite a few of those boxes and although I really wanted to throw them away because I was mad I gave them to a local ministry to families in need.

Often times they are helping people who have already made the choice not to breastfeed and like it or not we can not change their mind. When I was a single parent one of these places gave me diapers when I was in need so I just took all of the cans of formula there. I know how you feel though.

I am sorry that that Michelle was so rude to you. I know that you are used to it by now but I for one will affirm you that you don't need to believe that other peoples choices are right in order to respect them. If she didn't feel guilty than maybe she would not be so angry.

I worked when my daughter was an infant and had to pump in a public bathroom while leaving 5 tables unattended (waitress) in order to do so. Some how my daughter was breastfed successfully until the age of 2. It was worth every hardship of it.

I love the pictures that you have been using. Your daughter is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!

I never knew what to do with all the formula samples I received either. I eventually donated it to the local mission.

When I left the hospital they kept trying to get me to take a box of those little bottles of formula they use in the hospital, and were very upset when I refused.

I wish I had thought of the raccoon idea though. I wonder if they would even take formula? : )

I free cycle it. Formula is expensive and someone will use it. Also a thrift store will sell it to a needy family

They make special kitten and puppy formulas that are used for most orphaned animals so I doubt an animal shelter would want it. I'm also reasonably sure puppy and kitten formulas aren't allowed to contain MSG which some formula does.

Maybe you can use it as plant food?

Seriously though maybe offer it on freecycle to someone who already uses that brand?

I totally know what you mean though, I kind of want another free diaper bag from Nestle, the last one was pretty nice and I like costing them money. On the other hand I no longer know anyone that formula feeds and I don't think that the food bank should distribute formula because they can't guarantee they will have any, and they can't guarantee they will have the same brand even if they do have formula. They can however always guarantee they have enough food for mom to make breastmilk.

If it is unopened, donate it to a food shelf or battered woman's shelter. If you know of a higher-order-multiples group (triplets or more), donate it to them. They'll be sure it goes where it is most needed as many higher order multiples are unable to breastfeed.

Also, no, you can't use it for animal babies.

I donate the coupons I don't need to a local consignment shop. They sell everything from cribs, diapers, clothes, toys, and formula. Pretty much everything for babies and toddlers

I think donating it would be a great idea.... but really I answered to tell you that your baby is absolutely gorgeous! She is soooo pretty. Have a good night.
