If you start in January you should already be at your permanent Duty Station by August.
You will arrive at 30th AG at fort Benning, That is were you process, get your shots, fill out paper work and do a PT test (very low minimum to pass, its just to see if you are in good enough shape to go to training.) You will likely be there for a week or two depending on what part f the cycle you arrive at fort benning in. Then you go to your training unit. That is for 13 weeks. Then provides you pass you go to 3 weeks of very fun Jump School. After jump school you have the option to take leave or head directly to your perm. duty station. When you get there you can apply for leave. Whether you get it or not is depending on you unit. (if they are deployed it will be much harder to take leave.)
Unless you are injured or have problem in OSUT. You will be in your Perm Duty station well before August. Oh if you have Jump school in your contract. it should list your mos as 11(x) until after you grad from Jump school. Then you will be 11B1P. If you don't make it through Jump school you will be sent to a regular Infantry unit. (don't worry though unless you get injured it will seem like a piece of cake after you have been at OSUT.)
Good Luck, And Hope you don't get stuck in 2/58 (aka Infantry House of Pain) Oh and you find out your permanent Duty station about a week before you graduate OSUT.

Infantry OSUT + Airborne school should all be complete in June at the latest.
You will be on the the way to your permanent party assignment, or at it in August. Just ask your new CO when you get there.
If you are COHORT (or some other plan where you know where you are going when you sign the contract), contact your future CO now and ask for the time off.

Well if your going in the Army in January, you will be done with your OSUT training in April, Jump School by May.
Then you will receive leave, before you report to your first duty assignment.
You should be able to apply for leave.
But the biggest factor is gonna be, if you take two weeks leave, before your first duty station,
You are aren't gonna have any leave time earned by August to take.
And what if your assigned overseas, to Italy ?
The 82nd isn't the only Airborne unit, the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team is also Airborne.
Other factors that could effect you taking leave, are, what will your unit be doing at that time.
There are just to many variables for anyone to tell you, if you would be allowed to take leave next August.

If by August you are done with training you should be allowed to take leave or at least get a pass. If you are still in training then sorry unless it is a family emergency you will not be allowed to go.
If you are at your permanent duty station make sure you put in your leave as soon as possible or your pass. Passes usually have a mileage restriction. Don't worry your squad leader will square you away.

The last answer was pretty good but with one inaccauracy. You earn 2.5 days of leave per month you're on active duty, including when you're at OSUT and jump school.

well....since you are still going to be in training it will be hard. once it gets closer like..the month before..talk to your DS and ask them. Or if you are at airborne..talk to your jump instructor.
my husband got to take leave while he was in AIT and they were ok with it becuase we were coming home for a family event like that...but he was in AIT so it might be different. Just talk to them and explain whats going on. Sometimes they will say its ok..and well..you gotta get used to the army..they say no more than they say yes.
and actually..now that i think about it--if her wedding is over the weekend like..on a saturday..they would probably give you friday as soon as you get released-sunday night. but that wouldn't be leave. it would just be that they put you on pass and you would go home for a few nights then come back. they do that a lot more often than leave. its a lot easier to get...

if you are still in training, forget it.. no leave is authorized during schools. If you have completed training and are at your duty station, depends on the OPTEMPO.. if your unit is scheduled to deploy, probably not.
